I'm kinda new to Milex, despite loving both AM and TLSP for years, and like so many questions.......What happened to those sweethearts, what are the divorce allegations, why they don't hang out anymore, is there any tension between Miles and Alex's girlfriend? I need to know
hiii and welcome to the milex fandom!!
first of all, you can check out this post to know more about the divorce allegations - but of course always remember it's just theories, no one really knows what happened (if anything happened at all)
second of all, they do still hang out! they're just very private about it and rarely ever get spotted together, but over the years after the tbhc and cdg eras we got to see them together a few times, usually hanging out in london like here (august 2020):
and here (july 2021):
but also in jnstances like this one (september 2021) (it's not confirmed that they were together but miles posted this with the caption 'ARRABIATA HEAD X' and arrabiata is Their Thing + those are alex's sunglasses and the photo was most likely taken by him idc i will die on this hill)
then we got to see them together in june 2022, hanging out at some pub:
and also at zackery michael and lola mcdonnell's wedding aka the wedding of the century aka i wish i was a fly on the wall there. this was also in june 2022, they were both there but sadly we didn't get any interaction nor photos of them together:
we did however get a few interactions between miles, (nadya) and louise.
in may 2023 they were spotted having a cute little date night at a scott walker tribute concert in london (feat. the one and only brown leather jacket):
and then of course we got to see them playing 505 together in june (💖) after five whole years of not sharing a stage:
and then again in dublin, miles opened for them on all four nights of the irish leg in october and joined them for 505 on the very last one:
during both the cts and omb eras miles has mentioned alex and tlsp quite a few times (both spontaneously or because of annoying interviewers asking him about it).
speaking of miles and louise, they ignored each other for a long time since alex started dating her back in 2018, which was quite weird considering miles usually seemed to have great friendships with alex's girlfriends (he was very close to taylor, and he's still friends with alexa). recently they started interacting more, liking each other's posts or leaving comments there (see miles commenting on her latest birthday post for alex). as i mentioned, they interacted a bit during zack and lola's wedding (katie posted a video on ig where her, kirstin, louise, miles and nadya were all hanging out together). i think at this point it's safe to say miles and nadya aren't together anymore, but her and louise were hanging out quite a lot during 2022/start of 2023 and they probably got introduced through their respective boyfriends. there's no official drama between miles and louise but they don't seem to be friends, just close acquaintances at best.
and... i think that's it anon! in conclusion they're still very much close and hanging out with each other, it's just much rarer to get a glimpse of them but maybe in the (hopefully not so distant) future we'll get a tlsp3 announcement and then they'll finally be touring together again, planet earth will heal and we'll be well-fed once again. in the meantime, i hope this little recap was helpful <3
#@ moots please let me know if i missed something crucial!! i tried to include everything i could think of but if i forgot something >#> some instance of them hanging out together over the recent years then don't hesitate to add it to the post#also anon this is just considering the official sightings we've had. who knows what happens behind closed doors and how many times they >#> hang out without any of us knowing (top 10 thoughts that haunt me at night)#it's also worth noting they keep vague posting about each other through their lyrics which is very gay of them if i do say so myself#never beating the psychosexual relationship allegations!#ramblings#answered

when the other anon said 'interviews and more recent things' i think they must be referring to eycte interviews and that one (slightly awkward) time they played standing next to me in a miles gig in...... shit, 2018? time really flies uh. in that same gig he dedicated the wrong side of life to him ('that's for you brother')
there was also miles playing 505 with the monkeys the same year (but that one i remember them just. barely akcnowledging each other)
i'm bad with reading body language so no opinions, but those really were their most recent public interactions, i think
Hi anon!
Oh dear, yes I do recall watching that 2018 gig, the awkwardness was truly felt through the screen, though I didn't know that was the same gig that miles dedicated wrong side of life to him! Quite interesting indeed.
Truly, the body language in that gig was unbearable. I can't watch it sometimes. The fact Alex moves away so fast after doing things they used to do all the time pained me. Truly I can see the "body language" one might find in that gig, honestly whoever you are you would see it, it was quite uncomfortable even if you have no context at all.
This 505 gig in 2018 though… hm it seems precedes me. I think I do recall seeing a video of Miles playing 505 for the Monkeys in 2018 but maybe I didn't watch the entire video, so I can't really know about the body language on that one. I'll try finding it, or if someone could link it to me? That would also be greatly appreciated!
Honestly, same HAHAHAH, my body language reading skills seems to be lost to me. I barely know enough so I can't give that much opinions either. But if I recall correctly there was a few interactions in 2021? I remember seeing a twitter post where Miles says he spoke to "the big man" (I can't remember the exact wording, but he never mentions a name, just a nickname) about playing some TLSP songs in his next gig at the time, which he did end up doing, I remember seeing the clip of him singing aviation in said gig. I did also read that in January of 2021? 2022? I can't recall, but it was a Miles interview and he mentions he had dinner with him. So, we do know they're at least interacting! (You can tell, I am quite starved of content, and am eating anything that is served to me at this point)
2022 interactions though? Nothing I've heard at least, I'm gonna be honest I joined this fandom INCREDIBLY LATE. So, guaranteed there's 10 million things that I have missed probably just in this year alone, but trying to go by stock knowledge alone, I can't recall any 2022 interactions. If someone sees this that knows of a 2022 interaction then I'd love to see it! I have seen some Miles interviews though where Alex is mentioned, but that's really all there is to it. More people need to mention Miles in interviews with Alex I think, I'd love to hear what he has to say, or maybe there has been and I just haven't read it? We'll see!
Thank you for giving me a tip anon! I greatly appreciate it! Hope to hear from you again <3
#ask#abswered#alex turner#miles kane#the last shadow puppets#arctic monkeys#milex#milex spam#my post#again I hope I'm making any sense#if I'm not I'm so sorry#hope my reply helped a little though!#love to have some more discussions with you!

- Sunta: What are each other's bad habits?
Alex & Miles: [laughing, doing That Voice] Ooooh!
Miles: Sometimes . . .
Alex: He's very bad with the recycling.
Miles: Ooh I am very bad with recycling! He'll often say "what are you doing?" He will take out . . .
Alex: It's [they descend into chaos, speaking over each other]
Miles: I put it in the wrong bin, he will pull it out and rinse it under the sink and look at me with a vicious stare! Don't you?
Alex: I do mmm, yeah.
Miles: You do don't you, I'm terrible!
Alex: "Miles you've left the lentils in it and you've put it in the wrong bin!"
Miles: Yes!
Sunta: What about Alex's bad habits?
Miles: Oooh erm . . . [laughs]
[Awkward silence]
Miles: I'm not quick enough right now, sorry.
Sunta: You need that coffee!
Miles: I was erm, still thinking about the rinse . . .
[Sunta wisely moves on to the next question, and we can only speculate as to Alex's bad habits]

-
- “There is no embarrassment, no taboo, no limits between us. It's a real trade, we reroute each other's ideas. In the end, it's impossible to quantify the contribution of the two of us. Our complementarity sometimes freaks me out.” (Alex) via Les Inrocks article
-
- MK: Totally, to me it’s even the best vocal take of his entire career! (He cuddles him.) AT: Thank you, my dear. (Note: here it says “mon lapin”, which can mean “my dear” but literally translates to “my bunny”) via MyRock Magazine
-
- AT: Ah yeah, that’s how it is with my Miles! I start a joke and he’ll finish it! (he pounces on Miles and catches him in an armlock on the settee, before giving his crotch a light slap and shouting “Here comes the nuts!”) You wanna see how close we are as friends, Miles and I? Here, look, a spectacle exclusively for you! (At this point, we move up another notch in this madness: Alex swoops for a bowl of cashew nuts and starts to frenetically toss them at Miles, who tries to catch them with his mouth… after a fashion. Via MyRock Magazine
-
- “Alex is so dedicated to song writing, it’s inspiring to be around. He’s a beautiful soul and I’m honoured to witness him and the band grow. His left ears going to be burning when he hears this…” (Miles) via GQ magazine October 2013

- “Alex Turner is a genius, isn’t he? He’s a genius fish.” (Miles) via Knack Focus
-
-
- “Sometimes we have Skype-sex, or we wank off on FaceTime!” (Miles) via Index
-
- “We've been through a lot together. It's like, he's one of those friends, those few best friends you have in life. As you grow older, your circle tends to shrink, but he's remained one of my closest pals. It's almost like a bit of yin and yang between us.” (Miles) via Numéro

- “Why, yes, bromances are for sharing your dreams. What a wonderful sentiment.” (Miles) via Interview Magazine
-
- AT: Miles is, without a doubt, Wolverine. Wolverine is a style icon to him. I see similarities. Miles always follows his instinct. And he’s capable of fixing things that are broken, whether it’s material or emotional damage, in no time. MK: Alex often reminds me of Gambit. He can change something insignificant into something explosive. He’s very aware of everything that happens around him, something that balances him out. And he can read my mind. Via OOR Magazine 2016
-
- “We understand each other and keep each other going. We both have strange ideas and we need the presence of the other to make sense of them.” (Miles) Via OOR Magazine 2016
-
- “Sometimes it can be a pressure being the fella in the band who writes the songs. Getting together with Miles I've got someone to bounce ideas off and that is something new for me. Also, it gives me somewhere to hide because he's up there singing with me. In the Arctic Monkeys, there's nowhere for me to hide.” (Alex) via Culture
-
- “My best mate. I love him, man. I like the way he pushes himself and keeps that thing of, whatever's going on around you, you're just a lad who loves playing music and writing tunes. He's a prime example of someone who's big but doesn't take anything for granted.” (Miles)
-
- “I decipher his thoughts and organise them. When Miles bursts, the idea comes flying. Someone who knows him well enough might be able to filter out the good ideas. But usually, he only has good ideas and it’s up to me to catch everything. That’s my job within this duo. That process releases all kinds of stuff within me, causing me to go into certain directions I would never take my own.” (Alex)
-
- “I thought it were going to be like them finding a tape where you’d had an affair,” he grins. “Like your bird had found an affair tape and was watching you having sex with another bird… but it weren’t like… an affair tape… erm, not that I’ve ever made an affair tape.” Alex Turner about the Monkeys’ reaction to The Last Shadow Puppets’ album via NME
-
- “And also working with Miles, it comes very much from my heart. You know, with such a close friendship we have. Wanting to work together, it brings something else. I haven’t done too much with other people… he’s kind of the only one.” (Alex) via Hot Press
-
- MK: And he can read my mind. AT: But you can read mine, too. MK: I knew you were gonna say that. AT: And I knew you were gonna say that. via OOR Magazine 2016
-
- “Even if we aren't writing half a word is enough. We can finish each other's sentences sometimes and if we focus on it, we can take it to a much deeper level. That's pretty unique. My thinking process is pretty abstract and a lot of people don't know what to do with that. Alex understands me like no other.” (Miles) via OOR Magazine 2016
-
- you’re living in Los Angeles too now, miles? “…because Alex lives there…” (Miles) via Humo
-
- “He has written a lot of songs – a lyrical wonder, this boy!” (Miles) via Humo
-
- The pair live, Turner says, “seven minutes away from each other”. This does not disappoint and it’s got some really good smut in it. Thank you Eleanor!
Bucky Barnes
The Winter Ghost by @msmarvelwrites • Bucky Barnes x Reader — A Devastating car crash causes you to lose your memory and start over. The only thing left in the wreckage was the horrific nightmares which plagued your mind. If you knew what today would entail you would have just stayed in bed. But you didn’t and because of that, everything you knew was about to change. | Get yourself some tissues because you will cry. Brontë wrote the smut moments perfectly that it flowed with the the rest of the chapters so perfectly. Nothing felt rushed, the story was just so perfect.

Well, Steve and Bucky think they might’ve just found her in the form of one of their students. And they’re not gonna stop until they have her begging beneath them. | Okay this is such a good A/B/O one-shot. Like it’s got the little bit stuff you need instead of just jumping straight into the good stuff. Which isn’t bad, but sometimes a little bit of a burn, is so good. I highly recommend.
The Thought That Counts by @imerdwarf • Bucky Barnes x Reader — Reader offers to brush Bucky’s hair | All the fluffy fluffy-ness you could want or need.
On His Shoulder by @whateveriwant • Bucky Barnes x Reader — Five separate occasions in which Bucky tells you to put something on his shoulder. | A one-shot that made me wish I was somebodies Jack to somebodies ass. In all honesty Sam does a magnificent job giving reader a nickname and making this one-shot so unbelievably good. You got some laughs, some fluffs, and some smut.
Till The End Of The Line by @chanelsebbie • Bucky Barnes x Reader — You and Bucky go on a mission together to hopefully put a dent in H.Y.D.R.A., but things don’t go as planned. | Shaye how dare you, I cried, this is just so beautifully written and I just want more. One Shots
505 by @captain-barnes-writes • Dark!Lee Bodecker x Reader — On her summer break from college, Y/N embarks on an affair with Lee Bodecker. But she realizes that not all that drips from his lips is honey. | If you are looking for some dark Lee Bodecker, but I mean it’s Lee.. with some of angst thrown in and some smut, this one-shot is for you!
Misc.
Drabbles
I See You by @sevans-is-my-weakness • Colin Shea x TJ Hammond x F!Reader — TJ Hammond is your roommate and Colin Shea is your guys neighbor. | Short read that I enjoyed but I suggest also reading through this masterlist, there’s so much I want to share!
Writers
@bbonkyy - is one of my all time favorite writers but I could be bias as we are friends. I know they haven’t published in a really long time but they still deserve some recognition. They do take request, trust me they write some amazing smut! *chefs kiss*
@nsfwsebbie - Please please please do yourself a favor and check out Sabrina’s concepts masterlist, dark fics, and masterlist, I’m slowly making my way through them. Sabrina has got some writing talent in them and I love reading what they put out!
@mypoisonedvine - Looking for an eclectic collection of characters and different choices to choose from? j.d. has you covered with their stories. I love their writing, the dark, the fluffy and smut.
Writing Challenges:
Mostly a Milestone Writing Challenge hosted by @mostly-marvel-musings | What you need to know: You can write for celebrities but they have to be from the MCU or you can write for MCU characters. You do not have to reserve a spot in this challenge. OFC’s, any pairing, AU is welcome. The due date as of right now is the end of 2021 and the theme is... Romance Movies

Lucifer Meta - Celestial Powers
Celestial Powers have occupied a lot of our time in this fandom. What do they mean and how they are controlled? Perhaps the answer is in this self-actualisation all angels seem to possess.
Back in S2 Lucifer told Linda that all angels were born with their gifts and when she asked him if that was it, he seemed baffled from that question.
What we know so far is that
Lucifer draws out desires
Michael draws out fears
Amenadiel can slow down or even stop time
Remiel can sense the creation of new Celestials
Uriel could see patterns of action and results
And then we have Azrael. Azrael is the Angel of Death but what is really known about her gift? Very little. She can transfer souls? But how does she know where to go and when? Does she senses death? Finality so why did she need a sword that could enforce that finality to everyone?
By looking back a theory was formed one that may be supported by some lines throughout the seasons.
Celestial powers are not gifts. They are defence/coping mechanisms, coping mechanisms, customised for every Angel as if when they were created Mum and Dad gave them what they needed to feel safe, to be safe. So in a way a gift but did they made the same mistake Lilith did? Instead of making them untouchable each and every one barricaded behind their insecurities.
Let me explain this.
Amenadiel in S5 told Chloe that humans saw their desires reflected on Lucifer. That is why they were drawn by him. Lucifer hid behind -let’s call it- a celestial mirror that kept everyone out but made him likeable. If Michael was correct then Lucifer biggest fear was to be unworthy.
That is supported by Lucifer’s own words in the end of 3x11. Lucifer waited for aeons his Father’s forgiveness and after a lot of time he got disappointed so his vacation started. I do wonder sometimes if that case in 3x11 started by Michael. Was Aiden (the fighter) confronted by Gil (the boxing coach) out of fear and that led to the murder? Was it a celestial influencing murder? It’s probable.
Let’s not forget that Lucifer fought back when he was called Evil by Amenadiel that’s what urged his decision to throw the towel on ruling Hell and start his vacation. But back to the Celestial powers.
Now let’s leave Lucifer for a bit and move to Michael. Michael as very well Lucifer and Amenadiel said essentially reflected fears back to others, in an attempt to conceal his own fears of inadequacy. It is interesting how similar Lucifer and Michael are cognitively.
Amenadiel’s powers were brought forward at his talk with Remiel in 4x07.
“My powers, they kept me at a distance, kept me disconnected from humanity. And I think that's why they're gone now. Because I don't want that anymore.”
When Amenadiel had to confront his son’s humanity all his fears and insecurities came back thus his powers returned not in a loss of control but in order to protect him. They acted like an armour.
Here I would like to say that whether Charlie or not is a Celestial is an interesting question. He is half so it is plausible to get sick or even grow old, it is normal to have human attributes but also he remains a Celestial as Remiel recognised him as one before his birth.
Now add to that the fact that Michael may have manipulated the ‘evidence’. We have seen that some Celestial powers work on other Celestials like with fear and desire or even tracking down a Celestial as we saw with Remiel. So I wouldn’t be surprised if as Charlie comes from Amenadiel’s genetic code he can be controlled by him in that way. Or because Amenadiel was feeling threatened by his son’s humanity his powers lashed out to Charlie thus immobilising him.
As Lucifer noted in 508:
“You stopped time to prevent all these from happening.”
And here is the sweet spot. I do believe to an extent subconsciously that’s what was happening with Charlie. Amenadiel made sure to extend the effect of his power to Charlie, to stop time and protect his child.
It didn’t mean that Charlie was necessarily too human or not a Celestial but that the desire to protect the one that Amenadiel loved meant to stop time. And as you may have guessed something similar happened to Lucifer and Chloe in 507.
When it comes to Lucifer and Chloe we know that he is vulnerable around her and that she cannot be affected by his mojo.
Let’s start with his mojo.
If we assume that his mojo is a defence/coping mechanism, surrendering to her emotionally and carnally in 506 led to an effect similar to what happened with Charlie.
There is no reason why Lucifer would not have been able to trust Chloe in 1x01 in order for his mojo to not work. So we should assume something is there but what we are interested here is how Lucifer’s mojo passed to Chloe.
What Charlie is for Amenadiel, it’s Chloe for Lucifer. The person that they love most and are ready to do anything for them, even change, they can expand their powers and that’s what I believe happened with Chloe.
Aside from what she may be aside from mere Miracle, and thus can be receptive to the mojo transfer (like a magnet that needs the right metals in order for a pull to exist), I believe that Lucifer passed to Chloe his mojo as a way to protect her.
His power shield was given to the person he cared most and wanted safe. It is only natural for us to give everything to make sure our loved ones will be safe. The expression if I could give you my heart, moon etc imagine it being possible for Lucifer when he gives her a part of him unconsciously.
But when does he get it back?
As some fans have noted on Twitter and on Tumblr did the injection triggered him on being invulnerable again around Chloe?
I believe that yes. Lucifer has spent all his being on protecting her, she knows she can take care of herself but for the first time, he was near on losing her because he couldn’t act.
Let’s assume that the gun had not been tampered with or anything else. Let’s assume that while Dan was unconscious between his flights with Michael, Michael did not get the opportunity to somehow make the shooting realistic for everyone.
At this point, I want to say that speculation is still lit within me. Otherwise, Dan’s actions don’t make any sense.
It would make sense for Lucifer to miraculously regain his invulnerability and fro Michael to play easily with Chloe’s fears in the caves. He even seemed to know that Chloe would be rescued. Was he the one who manipulated Dad into finally coming to Earth? That will be known in P2 I guess but if all the above is not somewhat true then Michael’s plan has no value whilst he seems to always know exactly where the next pawn will land.
My opinion? Michael takes after Dad…. Go figure… Which I’ll explore in the Second Act as I believe it is related on how Lucifer transfers his mojo and loses his invulnerability.
As you remember Lucifer’s mojo returns in 507 as Lucifer draws out the guard’s desire to be a dancer in order to get a lead on Chloe. So Lucifer’s mojo returns when he needs to protect Chloe again and she cannot do it herself.
If we now assume that Lucifer’s vulnerability has nothing to do with Michael then it’s similar to his mojo coming and going and yes connected to the shock of not being able to protect Chloe.
Chloe in 505 tells him that according to Amenadiel’s theory Lucifer is vulnerable around her because he chooses to, and as we have said before in other meta, he trusts her. That discussion between them took place in 1x04 and after that, we know the rest.
In a recent interview with Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson they confirmed (at 2:43) that Lucifer is vulnerable around Chloe because he chooses to be.
Ildy said: ‘He wasn’t evolved mentally so his body laid the stepping stones for him’
Additionally that:
‘ He decides to make himself vulnerable and because his brain is kind of behind, his body does it for him. That’s why angels self-actualize and have the powers they have, be they good or bad. They are trying to tell them something that they need to learn.’
That’s a realisation he has after Chloe tells him Amenadiel’s theory in 505 so we can assume that cognitively can now albeit again unconsciously stop that from happening. Therefore he regains his invulnerability when there is an imminent danger around Chloe like her ex cradling a gun and pointing it at him.
Finally what we also need to explore is why Chloe loses suddenly the mojo in 507. She asks the desires of two suspects and then in their third one is gone.
Between those two events three things happen.
Lucifer’s fears and annoyance over Chloe surpassing him after talking to Mario intensify.
He is willing to use intimacy as a means to get back his mojo
Goes to couple therapy with Chloe but here is the thing that’s the one thing that I believe turned the tables.
While at couples therapy some revelations do happen but mainly for Chloe.
As Linda said they do not know everything about celestial powers so nothing is ridiculous not even power transference through sex, an emotional surrender or as Linda says it having sex with someone you care about requires surrendering control, giving up power.
Lucifer with the parallel of Chloe losing her power through the loss of her gun and part of her identity decides to of course get a gun and use the Diablo Lt. Detective badge prop he stole from set in 503.
Fast forward we go to Los Angeles Theatre where they question the barytone and there Lucifer has a gun and a badge. He reclaims power in the form of what gives power & a part of her identity to Chloe. He feels secure and also feels like he can protect himself and Chloe.
If the theory of the powers being a defence/coping mechanism then by getting a placebo in the form of a gun it means that Chloe no longer needs his mojo as she is safe with him while he has control of a deadly weapon but also that effect is so strong that he does not manifest - not retrieves - manifests his mojo again.
That of course is lost when while having the gun on him he gets immobilised, he can no longer protect himself nor Chloe and thus the barricades are all back up. Both his mojo which he uses to find/protect Chloe but also his invulnerability around her again in order to keep both of them safe.
I would like now to close this meta with the idea that Chloe also had a role in this as I do believe that losing the mojo involved her understanding of Lucifer’s powerlessness and therefore she once again surrendered emotional control to him and thus allowed the mojo to leave her, so Lucifer is not the only one who controls that give and take but on a degree, no matter how small, Chloe does as well.

untitled | honeymoon suite
very brief summary: patrick can’t sleep. his solution? interview your boyfriend.
pairing: malcolm (oc) / patrick (s/i) | honeymoon suite
words: 2088 (yikes!)
notes: this is the very first fic i wrote about malcolm and it turned a year old like two months ago (wow! i didn’t even know that until now), i didn’t want to change or edit too much because this holds a special place in my non existent heart :), written in the pov of my s/i (first person)
Today I found a magazine with one of my idols (and celebrity crushes) on the cover in my nightstand drawer stashed away like a porno magazine. I remember the exact day I bought it too. I was at a bookstore and I saw it in the checkout area and the moment I saw who was on the cover, I made a mad dash for the checkout area. I did contemplate it though; the magazine was like twelve bucks which is stupid for something no one really buys but skims through and puts back. (When was the last time you bought a magazine? Man, wait until you hear about the internet.) But for who was on the cover, I was more than willing to pay the stupid twelve dollars.
Like any child that picks up a book, I looked at the pictures and read some of the interview. My only takeaway from the interview was that he liked this Bolognese recipe he found- or made himself. I didn’t read it all. He puts bacon bits in it, and he says it’s even good when cold. I took this magazine with me to school almost every day. I really liked the guy, okay? I’d show it to my best and only friend at school at the time who hated my obsession with him. It was weird because she was one of those friends who would always get an ugly boyfriend and would force you to compliment him- no matter how ugly you thought he was but proceeded to get mad at you when you were being honest about his looks. I could handle her opinions about this man I claimed to love but have never met in my life.
Four years later and I finally read the interview. It was a good read. The interviewer had nothing but nice things to say about him, mainly because he was and still is a sweetheart. And he only had nice things to say about the people he talked about. After reading the interview, I had something other than his good looks to admire. As far as I know, there isn’t a hateful bone in his body. When talking about his controversial relationship with his ex (long story short, the public wasn’t buying it), he said he only knew the girl he fell in love with and that’s saying something for a relationship that felt like it only lasted a week.
It inspired me to conduct my own interview with someone who I love just as much, my partner Malcolm. I’ve interviewed other people before rather awkwardly but this is Malcolm we’re talking about. He has walls. We all do. He's a bit on the reserved side but with the time I’ve spent with him, I’ve seen these walls come down. These demolished walls are my favorite part of him. I even went out of the way and got a recording device from a buddy who works in film. I like being extra.
It’s about 2 am. There’s this thing my body does where I just have to wake up at this time. It’s every day too. When this happens, I wake Malcolm up. He encourages me to do so because it is incredibly difficult for me to go back to sleep once awake. Also, it’s kind of boring being awake all by yourself. In these hours, I learned how to call from a private number (*67, for prank call purposes), learned useless but interesting facts about space and how sex can be one hell of a sleeping pill. Tonight, I wanted to do something different.
We’re sat in the kitchen area of the suite. The only thing separating us is the kitchen island. My recording device sits in the middle of us. Are you ready? “Mhm.” Great, I start with an over-the-top introduction of him. Ladies, guys, and people who don’t care what’s between their thighs, it’s two in the fucking morning and I can’t sleep but the man I’m sitting across from makes it all worth it. He’s got great hair and even great taste in men. He’s dating me! The man, the myth, future astronaut, and legend: Malcolm Hall! I feel like a podcast host. It’s a good feeling. “You’re so annoying.” That’s why he loves me.
I have a list of questions I wrote down in less than five minutes. They’re nothing special and I want this to be fun and not so serious. This man constantly throws himself at his work- spending endless hours at a desk. Serious is his middle name. When he’s not in his office, he’s at the bar talking to you about a film he saw with a margarita in front of him or playing blackjack with you and your coworkers. Maybe he’s in suite 505 kicking it with yours truly, telling me about his day while I struggle to put a face mask on his moving face. How are you doing? He chuckles. That fucking chuckle. “Tired. But I’m with you, so I can’t complain. How are you?” I’m not so tired but I can’t complain. You’re here.
I see you’re well-dressed for our interview. A bit too casual but you look good regardless. “Fuck off.” He says this in a whisper but it’s almost too quiet, it almost looks like he’s mouthing it. He’s in a bathrobe, his hair tossed from sleep; strands of it falling into his face. His face is resting in his palm as he looks at me with a tired smile, his eyes struggling to stay open. This is all unintentional, but I think this is extremely sexy of him. These small things have such a tremendous effect on me. They light the pit in my stomach and make me squirm in my seat a little. I’m messing. You look great as always. “You’re not looking too bad yourself.” I know. If I ever die in my sleep, I want to be in the best damn pair of silk pajamas there is.
The coffee machine makes a noise indicating that it’s done brewing his cup of caffeine. That’s a nice coffee maker. When did you get it? I’m going off-script. “This thing?” He taps the machine like the hood of a car. “It came with the room. The interior design people take care of that. I just run the place, so I don’t really know when it got here. But I do know that the other machines were really fucking old.” Oh, interesting. “Not really. You know, I was expecting you to give me much harder questions.” Really? Well, it’s important to expect the unexpected. “Now you’re scaring me.” Good. Part of me can’t tell if he knows I’m teasing him.
I’m not a coffee drinker like him but if it tasted as good as it smelt, then I could be. It’s a hazelnut blend. He mixes it with half-and-half and three scoops of sugar. His sips are slow and cautious. He seems to have bad luck with hot objects. He burnt his hand in a waffle iron one time and a dozen more times while preparing dinner. Maybe a hot object, liquid, or thing is the reason for the tape on his right hand. What happened to your hand? He looks up at me through his mug. “Masturbation incident.” By the way, I am madly in love with this man.
Do you remember when we met? This is a weird transition because it was on my list of questions and my timing couldn’t be any worse considering moments ago, I asked a question and the answer I received was masturbation. The question makes him smile though. He either remembers or he’s pretending to remember. “Yeah. Of course I do.” He takes both my hands, gliding his thumbs across my knuckles. I want dates, times, names, everything. “I don’t remember the exact date, but I believe it was March.” He’s correct. “It was at the hair salon and I booked an appointment with you.” He’s correct again. I cut his hair for free now- well, unless he’s pissed me off. Then, I charge him ten bucks. Twenty if I’m really upset.
Do you remember what time you showed up for your appointment? “Late. Very late.” He came in about two and a half hours late. I was pissed. “You were pissed.” He apologized profusely, and I still cut his hair. I remember it being soft and full. It still is. That's just one of the perks of having a hairstylist as a boyfriend. “I remember when you washed my hair. It’s my favorite part of you doing my hair.” I remember that too. The shampoo had a minty menthol smell. When it was on your head, it added a cooling factor and when you inhaled it, your lungs felt like winter. Basically, vapor rub for your hair.
He got lost in the way I massaged his scalp, his eyes closed and smiling. I can still hear his Yorkshire accent telling me “Tha’ feels good.” After I washed it, I blew it out and started cutting it. That’s when I told him his hair was soft. “Looking back on it, you kept your hands in my hair way too long.” It’s part of the job. “That’s what they all say.” He takes a long sip from his mug, his eyes not leaving mine. “Your hair was...interesting as well.” Interesting, in the way he’s using it, is slang for saying you don’t know whether you should like something because you’ve never seen it before. Back in the day, I’d dye my hair all types of colors. Shit, I thought I looked good.
“The Smiths played on the stereo and your singing was terrible.” That’s a lie. I’m not Morrissey but I try to stay on key. “I’m kidding. But when you moved around the shop, you were always swaying to the music. You were fun to watch.” He winks at me and my face heats up at the memory. I danced like no one was watching. “We talked and talked and next thing I knew, I was asking you out on a date.” The first date was meant to be memorable but due to one incident, I feel like our date was memorable for the wrong reasons. “We went bowling. I’ll never forget it.” I know why. “You slipped and fell in the aisle.” I was so embarrassed. Is that the only thing you remember? Whenever we talk about it, you always bring it up. “That’s how I break the ice. ‘My boyfriend and I went bowling and he fell in the aisle. It was our first date. It's nice to meet you.'"
I’m a little tired now, my eyes a bit heavy and my voice softening. He answered the first date question I had prepared, so I decided to move on to my last one. Have you ever been in love? “Yes. I’d say so. Are you or have you ever been in love?” I’m supposed to be asking the questions, but I answer anyway. Yeah. I am right now. It’s a funny feeling because I’ve never been in love before. “Really? Who with?” You. My eyes can’t take the weight and close. “Good answer.” I can hear the smile in his voice.
It’s a few minutes to 4 now. Our interview is done, and we’re ready for bed. We don’t go straight to sleep though. I listen to him talk some more with my head on his chest, his little chest hairs tickling my cheek. I begin to absently trace patterns across his chest. He says it tickles. His hand goes up my shirt, moving his hand up and down my back almost in a soothing rhythm. Sometimes, he stops, and I think he’s asleep, but I get the feeling that he realizes that I sensed he’s stopped and keeps going until I’m asleep. The hum of his chest when he speaks, combined with his hand and heartbeat is enough for me to call it a night.
His skin radiates a warmth that can’t be duplicated. His hands have a pattern like no other, each touch raising the hairs on my body. Despite it being hours since he’s showered, I can smell the scent of my cherry soap on him. This moment is something I never knew I needed and if it were to be taken away, I would be devastated. I close my eyes. I cannot think of any other place I’d rather be than here.

why did you leave the am fandom when you did? do you think you'll ever be back? i'm not trying to start drama or smth but i miss your enthusiasm ans your gifs :(
I've had this in my inbox for quite a while, and I got many variations of this ask over the past year, but for a long time I just wasn't really ready, I feel like, to answer this. I needed some distance in order to reflect and I think I'm there now. This...might get long, I don't know yet, so I put it under a read more.
I want to pre-face this by saying that this is all my opinion. I know that’s what you asked for, but just in case that wasn’t clear. I'm not saying it’s fact, that you should feel this way as well; it's just how I felt and how I feel now.
I left the fandom because I wasn't getting any joy from AM anymore. Like, at that point (May 2019) I felt like AM just wasn't performing the way they used to. And I'm not saying that a band should always be on their best, they're just people and that would be unrealistic, but they just seemed so uninspired - which seemed odd to me considering they had just come off a lengthy hiatus and had a brand new album to tour. The setlist stayed pretty much the same about halfway through the tour, they had this incredible new album and just kept playing... boring setlists, to be honest. I think Alex's vocals were really sloppy by the end of the tour and his guitar work was sometimes... awful. A big part was also how messy some of the guys' personal lives seemed and how they seemed to bring it on stage with them sometimes. And clearly Alex and Taylor's break-up and him moving on so fast with Louise, that annoyed the hell out of me, too. And to me, as someone who was around when they toured AM and saw many, many of their live shows (via live streams, but still), things just seemed very different when they toured TBHC and that started to really affect how I felt about the band. It got so bad that I just couldn't really listen to their music without just getting really, angry and annoyed, which is unusual for me because I'm not an angry person. That was a big red flag for me that something was wrong. Something you say you love shouldn't make you feel that way and shouldn't make you feel like you're not yourself. I know that sounds really heavy and like I'm exaggerating and overreacting, but AM was just my entire world, literally, in my late teens/early twenties. Every moment I was listening to their music, making gifs, watching their interviews, I got up at 3am in the summer to watch live streams of their shows, they're what really got me into music, vinyl, playing guitar. And for that feeling and excitement to be gone, that made me really, really sad, which was also a moment for me where I realized I just had to step away or else that really important period in my life might be stained forever.
For me that meant getting into other stuff and just finding that sense of joy again, and I really found that in film, mostly, and that’s what I’ve really been focused on ever since. I didn’t listen to AM for more than 6 months, I didn’t look them up, watch any videos, I unfollowed everyone on Instagram. That gave me so much room to breathe again and, like I said, find joy in things. And in the recent weeks I’ve finally felt like I have processed everything and can kind of look at it more objectively and not through AM-obsessed-tinted glasses. I also had a good talk about it with my friend Ro and she talked a lot of sense into me as well. Looking back on it, I just think I was too close to things. I knew everything that went on; I knew the setlist backwards, I had the tour dates in my calendar to know when new shows were, I knew everyone’s relationship status and got every Instagram notification, I would wake up in the middle of the night and my first instinct was to check their tag on Instagram to see if I missed anything, and looking back at that, that’s so insane and it’s hard to think I functioned like that at some point. It has also given me some new insights on how the Tranquility Base tour ended and how I feel about the tour and ‘era’ as a whole. And it made me compare to how I would feel about those things in other bands I like. Would I be angry and upset if Royal Blood had a couple of bad shows? Would I be disappointed in Haim if they only put out two music videos for their album? Would I think that someone being less present on stage definitely had to do with their break-up that happened somewhere in June 2018, which I know about because his former girlfriend hasn’t posted about him since then and that’s totally evidence they’re not together anymore? I wouldn’t even know any of these things about those bands because I don’t keep close enough tabs on them to even know these things. AM is an incredible band, they make incredible music, they were a huge part of an important part of my life, I met many of my friends by being an AM fan, but I also see that I went way too hard and that that affected my feelings about the band. It doesn’t mean that my feelings from late 2018/early 2019 are invalid, or that anyone who doesn’t agree with what I’ve said here is wrong. I’m not making excuses for anything, but I am trying to rationalize it a little bit for myself. What I do know is that, personally, it has been really good for me as a fan of their music to be able to take several steps back and to be able to let go of a lot of negative emotions I had towards the band and in response to that, to their music. It’s made it so that I can now listen to their music again without feeling like I wanna jump out a window because of how miserable the sound of Alex’s voice makes me feel. And to answer your other question: I don’t know if I’ll ever really be back in the fandom. I definitely couldn’t be back in the same capacity as I was from 2014 until 2019, but I also feel like it would make me really excited if they would release new music, whenever that may be. The idea of making gifs of them again is nice. I would love to go back to my old URL. And I also really loved the sense of community, the people I met, liveblogging every live set and everyone posting ‘I CRUMBLE COMPLEEETELY WHEN YOU CRY’, during 505 is among one of my fondest memories. In this lengthy reply I’m not trying to say it was all bad, because for the biggest part it was really fucking great and I’m so happy to have been a part of all that and to have been there for those moments and to have met incredible people both online and at concerts. But I am trying to say that in the future when it comes to AM I need to find a good balance, because it would be very easy to fall back into that 2014-2019 pattern again, but reality is I can’t do that without compromising my mental health and my love for AM’s music. If you have made it this far, bravo. I’m sorry this got so long, but it felt right. I hope this makes you think about your relationship with the things you love. Thank you for the nice words, it's good to hear my presence and gifs were appreciated, and I hope this big response answers your question!

Blonde / Joyce Carol Oates / 2000
Above: the British paperback cover (If you want a copy of this version, search ISBN 9781841153728)
Quotes (As always, for educational/entertainment purposes only! Full disclaimer at rllibrary.tumblr.com )
*
"Look, sweetie. You're making too much of it. You've seen a boy's- a man's- thing, haven't you?"
Elsie was so crude and blunt, Norma Jeane laughed, startled.
She nodded, just barely.
"Well, you know- it gets bigger. You know that."
Again, just barely, Norma Jeane nodded.
"It has to do with them looking at you. It makes them want to- you know- 'make love.'"
(130)
*
Monroe was a natural even as a girl. She had brains but operated from instinct. I believe she could see herself through the camera eye. It was more powerfully, more totally sexual to her than any human connection...Her problem wasn't she was a dumb blonde, it was she wasn't a blonde and she wasn't dumb.
(232)
*
And the director is thinking, This girl is the first actress of the twenty or more he's auditioned for the role (including the black-haired actress he's probably going to cast) who has caught on to the significance of the scene's opening, the first who seems to have given the role any intelligent thought and who has actually read the entire script (or so she claims) and formed some sort of judgment on it. The girl opens her eyes, sits up slowly and blinking, wide-eyed, and says in a whisper, "Oh, I- must have been asleep." Is she acting, or has she actually been asleep? Everyone's uncomfortable. There is something strange here.
(242)
*
She was fascinating to watch. Like a mental patient, maybe. Not acting. No technique. She'd put herself to sleep and out would come this other personality that was her yet also not-her.
People like that, you can see why they're drawn to acting. Because the actor, in her role, always knows who she is. All losses are restored.
(243)
*
Where at her audition Norma Jeane had spoken Angela's lines with seeming spontaneity, naively lying on the floor, now on her feet she was paralyzed with fear at the enormity of the risk before her. What if you fail. If you fail. You will fail. Then you must die. If fired from the film she would be obliged to destroy herself, yet she was deeply in love with Cass Chaplin and hoped one day to have his child- "How can I leave him?" And there was her obligation to Gladys in the hospital at Norwalk. "How can I leave her? Mother has no one but me."
(253)
*
"Norma, for Christ's sake. Your director will lead you step by step through your scenes, that's what movies are. Not real acting, like the theater; not where you're on your own. Why work so hard? Turn yourself inside out? You're sweating like a horse. Why does this matter so much?"
The question hovered between them. Why does it matter so much? So much!
Knowing it was absurd, what she could not explain to her lover- Because I don't want to die, I'm in terror of dying. I can't leave you. Because to fail in her acting career was to fail at the life she'd chosen to justify her wrongful birth. And even in her mildly deranged state she understood the illogic of such a statement.

You just can't take your eyes off her. Cass and me, we'd see Niagara a dozen times.... It's because Rose is us. In our souls. She's cruel in ways we are. She's without any morality, like an infant. She's always looking at herself in the mirror just like we'd look if we looked like her. She's stroking herself, she's in love with herself. Like all of us! But it's supposed to be bad...
(347)
*
It was like only the camera knew how to make love to her the way she needed, and we were voyeurs just hypnotized watching.
(347)
*
About midway in the movie, when Rose is mocking and laughing at her husband for not being able to get it up, Cassie says to me, "This isn't Norma. This is not our little Fishie." And the hell of it was, it wasn't. This Rose was a total stranger. This was nobody we'd laid eyes on before. Out here, people thought "Marilyn Monroe" was just playing herself. Every movie she made, no matter that it was different from the others, they'd find a way to dismiss it- "That broad can't act. She's just playing herself." But she was a born actress. She was a genius, if you believe in genius. Because Norma didn't have a clue who she was, and she had to fill this emptiness in her. Every time she went out, she had to invent her soul. Other people, we're just as empty; maybe in fact everybody's soul is empty, but Norma was the one to know it.
That was Norma Jeane Baker when we knew her. When we were "the Gemini." Before she betrayed us- or maybe we betrayed her. A long time ago, when we were young.
(347-8)
*
So strange! The audience adored Lorelei Lee. They liked Dorothy, too- Jane Russell was wonderfully warm, attractive, sympathetic, and funny- but clearly the audience preferred Lorelei Lee. Why? Such rapt, smiling faces. Marilyn Monroe was a winner, and everyone loves a winner.
Oh the irony was, surely these people all knew: Marilyn didn't exist.
I can't fail. If I fail I must die. This had been Marilyn's secret no one knew.
(429)
*
I was terrified. I wasn't ready. I'd been up most of the night. I kept having to pee! I wasn't taking any drugs, only just aspirin. And an antihistamine tablet Mr. Pearlman's assistant gave me, for a sore throat. I believed the Playwright would take one look at me and speak to Mr. Pearlman and that was it, I'd be out of the cast. Because I never deserved to be there, and I knew it. I seemed to know this beforehand. I seemed to see myself going down those stairs. I held the script, and I tried to read the lines I'd marked in red, and it was like I'd never seen them before. My only clear thought was: If I fail now, it's winter here, freezing. It wouldn't be hard to die, would it?
(497)
*
Pearlman spoke of the Theater as you'd speak of God. Or more than God, for theater was something in which you participated and lived. "Die for it! For your talent! Scour out your guts! Be hard on yourself, you can take it. It's life and death up there on the stage, my friends. And if not life and death, it's nothing." It was what I revered in him. Oh, he could reach right in....
But he exploited you, didn't he? As a woman.
A woman? What do I care about myself as a woman? I never did....I came to New York to learn to act.
Why do you give Pearlman so much credit? I hate it, in interviews, you exaggerate his role in your life. He eats it up, it's great publicity for him.
Oh, but it's true...isn't it?
You just want to deflect attention from yourself. It's what women do. Defer to bullies. You knew how to act, darling, when you came here.
I did? No.
Certainly you did. I hate this, too, the way you misinterpret yourself.
I do? Gee....
You were a damned good actress when you came to New York. He didn't create you.
You created me.
Nobody created you, you were always yourself.
Well, I guess I knew...something. When I did movies. In fact I was reading Stanislavski. And the diary of, of...Nijinski.
Nijinski.
Nijinski. But I didn't know what I knew. In practice. It was just...what happened when I had to perform. To improvise. Like striking a match....
The hell with that. You were a natural actress from the start.
Oh, hey! Why're you mad, Daddy? I don't get this.
I'm only just saying, darling, you were born with the gift. You have a kind of genius. You don't need theory. Forget Stanislavski! Nijinski! And him.
I never think of him.
Him messing with you...your mind, your talent...like somebody's big thumbs gripping a butterfly, smearing and breaking the wings.
Hey, I'm no butterfly. Feel my muscle? My leg here. I'm a dancer.
Bullshit theory is for somebody like him: can't act, can't write.
Kiss-kiss, Daddy? C'mon.
(503-4)
*
What kind of questions did he ask you?
My...motivation.
Which was?
To...not die.
What?
To not die. To keep on....
I hate it when you talk like that. It tears my heart.
Oh, I won't! I'm sorry.
(505)
*
Pearlman was always saying how surprised he was by you. What you're really like.
But...what'd that be? What I'm really like?
Just yourself.
But that isn't enough, is it?
Of course it is.
No. It never is.
What do you mean?
You're a writer, because being just yourself isn't enough. I need to be an actress, because being just myself isn't enough. Hey, you won't ever tell people, will you?
I would never speak of you, darling. It would be like flaying my own skin.
You would never write about me, either...would you, Daddy?
Of course not!
(505-6)
*
Why don't I remember things better, my mind gets stuck on a role I'm doing, and I...it's like I'm in two places at once? With other people but not...with them. Why I love to act. Even when I'm alone I'm not.
Your gift is so natural, you don't "act." You require no technique. Yes, it's like a match being struck. A sudden flaring flame....
But I like to read, Daddy! I got good grades in school. I like to...think. It's like talking with somebody. In Hollywood, on the set, I'd have to hide my book if I was reading....People thought I was strange.
Your mind can get muddled. You're easily influenced.
Only by people I trust.
(507)

It would astonish the Playwright when he came to know the Blond Actress better how, when she didn't wish to be recognized, she rarely was, for "Marilyn Monroe" was but one of her roles and not the one that most engaged her.
(513)
*
"I was thinking, what Chekhov does with Natasha, he surprises you because Natasha turns out so strong and devious. And cruel. And Magda, you know- well, Magda is always so good. She wouldn't be, in real life? I mean, all the time? I mean"- the Playwright could see the Blond Actress shifting into a scene, face animated, eyes narrowed- "if it was me, a cleaning girl- and I used to do work like that, laundry, dishes, scrubbing toilets, when I was in an orphanage and a foster home in Los Angeles- I'd be hurt, I'd be angry, how life was so different for different people. But your Magda...she never changes much. She's good."
"Yes. Magda is good. Was good. The original. It wouldn't have occurred to her to be angry." Was this true? The Playwright spoke curtly, but he had to wonder.
(513-4)
*
There was the Norma who spoke to him and there was the Norma at a short distance from him. The one an object of emotion, the other an object of aesthetic admiration. Which of course is a type of emotion, no less intense.
(586)
*
The Playwright had noticed, as Max Pearlman had pointed out, how women often took warmly to Norma, quite in reverse of expectations. You would anticipate jealousy, envy, dislike; instead, women felt a curious kinship with Norma, or "Marilyn"; could it be, women looked at her and somehow saw themselves? A man might smile at such a misapprehension. A delusion, or a confusion. But what can a man know? If anyone resisted Norma, it was likely to be a certain kind of man; one sexually attracted to her, yet wise enough to know she would rebuff him. What strategies of irony bred out of threatened male pride, the Playwright well knew.
(591)
*
"He doesn't love me. It's some blonde thing in his head he loves. Not me."
(600)
*
"Darling, maybe you should stop feeding those cats," the Playwright suggested.
"Oh, I will! Soon."
"More and more of them will be showing up. You can't feed the entire Maine coast."
"Daddy, I know. You're right."
Yet she continued, through the summer, as he'd known she would. How many scrawny, starving cats showed up each morning to be fed by her, he didn't want to know. Her strange stubbornness. Her powerful will. The man knew himself obliterated by her, in essential things. Only in surface matters was he triumphant.
(605)
*
She knew she did not deserve life as others deserve life & though she had tried, she had failed to justify her life; yet she must continue to try, for her heart was hopeful, she meant to be good!
(625)
*
Monroe wanted to be an artist. She was one of the few I'd ever met who took all that crap seriously. That's what killed her, not the other. She wanted to be acknowledged as a great actress and yet she wanted to be loved like a child and obviously you can't have both. You have to choose which you want the most.Me, I chose neither.
(638)
*
The fairy tale. The Blond Actress would herself come to believe in this fairy tale a man had written for her as a love offering. She would come to believe not just that luminous Roslyn could save the small herd of wild mustangs but that wild mustangs might be saved. These horses, only six remaining of how many hundreds and one of them a foal. A foal galloping anxiously beside its mother. Lassoed and roped by the desperate men, yet they might be saved from death. From the butcher's knife and being ground into dog food. Here is no romance of the West or even of manly ideals and courage but a melancholy "realism" to thrust into an American audience's faces! Roslyn alone would run into the desert in an action blocked out with care by the Blond Actress and her director that would allow her to express, at the top of her lungs, her fury at manly cruelty. (But I don't want close-ups. Not of me screaming.") She would scream at the men Liars! Killers! Why don't you kill yourselves! She would scream in the emptiness of the Nevada desert until her throat was raw. Until the interior of her sore-pocked mouth throbbed with pain. Until more capillaries burst in her straining eyes. Until her heart pounded close to bursting. I hate you! Why don't you die! She may have been screaming at those men of her life whose faces she retained or she may have been screaming at those men lacking faces, constituting the vast world beyond the perimeters of the crimson velvet backdrop and the blinding-bright photographer's lights. She may have been screaming at H who had eluded her charm. She may have been screaming into a mirror. She'd told Doc Fell she would not need any medication that morning (after even the stupor of the phenobarbital night) and aroused now to pity, horror, rage by the spectacle of the trapped horses she had not needed any drug. She believed she would never again need any drugs. What power! What joy! She would return to Hollywood alone, and she would buy a house, her first house, and she would live alone, and she would do only work she wanted to do; she would be the great actress she had a chance of becoming; she would no longer be trapped by men; she would no longer be cheated of her truest self. The Blond Actress was expressing anger, rage. At last. Except (all observers would claim) it wasn't the simulated expression of anger and rage but genuine passion ripping through the woman's body like an electric current.
"Liars! Killers! I hate you."
(668-9)
*
"You feel genuine emotion, Miss Monroe! That's why you're a brilliant actress. That's why people see in you a magnified image of themselves. Of course they're deluded, but happiness dwells in delusion! Because you live in your soul like a candle that lives in its own burning. You live in our American soul. Don't smile, Miss Monroe. I'm serious, too. I'm saying that you're an intelligent woman, not just a woman of 'feeling'; you're an artist, and like all artists you know that life is just material for your art. Life is what fades, art is what remains. Your emotions, your anguish over your divorce or Mr. Gable's death, whatever-" with an airy impatient gesture taking in all of the world she'd inhabited in thirty-five years or even envisioned: the very memory of the Holocaust evoked out of much-thumbed secondhand books rescued from a used-book store, vessels of Jewish fortitude and suffering, the stale-rancid odors of the California madhouses of her mother's captivity, all the memories of her personal life, as if they were of no more significance to her than a screenplay- "you may as well see your trauma as a newsreel, because others will."
(679)
*
This doctor says there are miracle drugs now
to control the "blues." I said, oh if the
blues go, what about blues music? He asked
is the music worth the agony & I said that
depends upon the music & he said life is more
precious to retain than music, if a person is
depressed her life is endangered & I said
there must be a middle way & I would find that
way.
(683)
*
Mother? What did you want from me I could never give you? How did I fail? I tried so hard. She wondered if, if she'd played piano better for Mr. Pearce and sung better for poor Jess Flynn, her childhood would have turned out differently? Maybe her miserable lack of talent had contributed to Gladys Mortinsen's madness. Maybe something in Gladys had simply snapped.
Still, Gladys had seemed to absolve her of blame. Nobody's fault being born, is it?
(695)

Hey I love to act. Truly, acting is my life! Never so happy as when I'm acting, not living.
Oh, what'd I say? Oh well, you know what I mean.
(Why am I so afraid, then? I will not be afraid.)

”Brick By Brick” or “Don’t Sit Down Cuz I’ve Moved Your Chair”

Villainous: Reform School Chapter 31
Meanwhile, back in the lab, the blood transfusion was done. 505 had bathed Melanie from head to toe, put her underwear on her, dressed her in a red dress with a black ribbon he tied into a bow in the back that he had made himself, and was now blow-drying her clean hair.
Flug watched him work, amazed as always at 505’s level of gentleness, while waiting for Melanie to wake up.
That was when Demencia burst into the room and called out, “Hey, nerd! Black Hat and Lord Reaper want to see Melanie now!”
“Now?” Flug asked in annoyance.
“Yeah, now,” Demencia replied. “Get moving or I’ll tell Black Hat!”
“Alright,” Flug snapped before turning to 505, who had just finished blow-drying Melanie’s hair, and saying, “505, can you carry her to the gurney? Please be gentle.”
505 nodded. He picked her up and carried her to a gurney across the room. After Melanie was gently laid on the gurney, Flug strapped in her hands and feet and the four headed up to Black Hat’s office.
Several minutes later, Doctor Flug, Demencia, and 505 pushed Melanie into Black Hat’s office.
Lord Reaper noticed, summoned his wings, and flew over to Melanie immediately.
Black Hat quickly teleported over to join him.
Lord Reaper looked over his sleeping granddaughter in concern while Black Hat watched silently.
“As you can see, she is quite safe,” Black Hat said.
“Poor thing has had quite the day,” Lord Reaper said, summoning Melanie’s scythe over her and allowing it to dissolve back into her soul. “She needs her rest. May I ask why she is being restrained?”
“After the behavior she’s been showing lately, I imagine it to be necessary,” Black Hat said.
“And pointless,” Lord Reaper said. “I can see in my visions that my little lovely has learned how to phase. This is the gurney she phased through. She always struggled with that. I’m so proud.”
Lord Reaper adjusted Melanie’s head on the pillow and pulled the blanket more evenly over her sleeping body.
“Be impressed when the task is finished, Reaper,” Black Hat added.
“What do you mean?” Lord Reaper asked, moving some hair out of his granddaughter’s face. “Can’t I be proud of the progress she makes along the way?”
Black Hat sighed and replied, “So long as it doesn’t distract you from what needs to be done. Flug! Do you have anything to wake the girl?!”
“I can do it, Black Hat,” Lord Reaper said. “All I need is a cup of water.”
Black Hat glared right at Flug, giving him a command without the use of words. That send the doctor rushing out of the room to follow those orders. After a couple of minutes, he returned with a paper cup of water, taking several deep breaths from running.
Lord Reaper then telekinetically picked up the water from the cup and held it over Melanie’s forehead.
“I can heal through water,” Lord Reaper explained. “It’s a gift all angels have and one I managed to hold on to after my fall. Black Hat did not.”
Black Hat glared, lifted a brow, and said, “Do not compare me to one of those!”
Lord Reaper shrugged and said, “I suppose that would be inaccurate. God made angels to be messengers. He created us to be little g gods. That’s why we have much more power.”
“Oooooh, so mi bon bon is a god?!” Demencia said, practically swooning where she stood.
Black Hat rolled his eyes and asked, “Are you done yet?”
“Almost,” Lord Reaper replied. “You are too impatient, Black Hat.”
Just then, Melanie began to stir.
“There, we go,” Lord Reaper said with a smile.
“Flug, elevate the bed so she can look at us,” Black Hat ordered.
“Yes, Jefe!” Flug said, pressing a button on the side of the gurney so that it raised just enough for Melanie to see everyone without having to move her head while he moved out of the way.
Melanie then opened her eyes and began looking around tiredly.
Lord Reaper telekinetically placed the water in the paper cup Flug was still holding and said, “It is done, Black Hat.”
Melanie looked at her grandfather and asked, “Papi, what are you doing here? Where am I?”
“Back in my presence again, it would seem,” Black Hat interrupted. “Like a bug.”
Melanie looked at Black Hat wearily and asked, “Why?”
She then looked down at her restrained body and asked, “And why am I wearing a dress?”
“One thing at a time, Melanie,” Lord Reaper said reassuringly.
“But what’s going on?” Melanie insisted.
“You’re here to speak with Lord Reaper,” Black Hat interjected. “He seems to care for you, in a way I find disgusting.”
“If you don’t like it, why don’t you leave?” Melanie asked, unaware of the level of sarcasm in her tone.
In most cases Black Hat would strike her down and or torture her, but instead and almost uncharacteristically, he decided to leave with little to no argument.
“Lucky for you, I have more important business to attend to,” Black Hat said while walking by, prompting Demencia to follow behind him.
Black Hat and Demencia then left the room.
Flug stayed behind. Black Hat and Demencia listened from a tablet outside the room.
“Would you like me to stay, Lord Reaper?” Flug asked.
“Of course,” Lord Reaper replied. “I need your help. Black Hat would like you to ask the questions written on his desk over there if you please.”
Flug nodded and walked over to the desk to retrieve the list of questions.
Meanwhile, Lord Reaper phased Melanie through her restraints, telekinetically picked her up, teleported onto the gurney, and landed Melanie in his lap.
“Melanie, I need you to help me answer some questions, okay?” Lord Reaper said.
“But why?” Melanie asked.
“Because we want to help you,” Lord Reaper explained before turning back to Flug and asking, “What do you need to know Dr. Flug?”
Flug adjusted his lab coat as he looked at his list and asked, “Yes well, for starters. Where did you last meet your Nun-ja friends?"
“Before I came here obviously,” Melanie replied sassily. “As for where, we met at many different places, none of which I feel like specifying.”
“So you and your friends have multiple meeting places is what I hear you saying,” Lord Reaper said, rubbing Melanie’s head affectionately. “Interesting, don’t you think, doctor?”
Melanie’s eyes flashed in a panic, and she said, “No, I didn’t mean…”
“Flug, make note of that, will you?” Lord Reaper interrupted.
Flug wrote down a note with pencil on his pocket notepad in a routine manner and said, “I always am. I wonder if they know where you are.”
Melanie looked askance, refusing to look at Flug or her grandfather.
Lord Reaper looked at Melanie who refused to look back at him.
After studying her face for a few moments, Lord Reaper looked back at Flug and said, “I’m willing to bet they do.”
“No, they don’t!” Melanie lied desperately as she tried to conceal her tears.
Lord Reaper gave Melanie a comforting hug and said, “Your reaction indicates otherwise. Wouldn’t you say, Dr. Flug?”
Flug continued jotting down notes in an uncaring manner and said, “Definitely, though this might present us with an opportunity.”
“How do you mean?” Lord Reaper asked with a twisted smile. “Are you pondering what I’m pondering?”
“I believe we could lure another Nun-ja here if they believed they had a chance to ‘rescue’ Melanie. They might even be more cooperative than her,” Flug said much to Melanie’s panic.
“I like this idea, but we don’t know the first thing about how to find them,” Lord Reaper said, rubbing his chin. “How do you suppose we…?”
“NO!” Melanie interrupted in a snarl.
“Huh?” Lord Reaper said in surprise.
Melanie phased through Lord Reaper’s arms, hopped on the floor, and snarled, “I said no! If you think I’m going to be your bait, then you’re all even stupider than you look. I hate every one of you! Except 505. And I’d rather die the most gruesome death imaginable than help you hurt any one of my sisters! They’re my family, and my loyalty is to them! You won’t find them, and you won’t use me to do it! I don’t care what you bastards try to do to me!”
“We don’t need to find them,” Flug said, looking back over at Melanie apathetically. “We just need to let them come to us.”
Lord Reaper smiled and said, “That sounds like an excellent idea, Doctor Flug. I think it’s safe to say the interview is over for now. We just have to keep our eyes open. If we’re lucky, we might even catch Kasumi.”
“No, you won’t!” Melanie let slip out before pulling her hands over her mouth.
Lord Reaper smiled smugly.
Flug loomed over Melanie as menacingly as he did before and said, “I’m sure Lord Black Hat would love to see your sensei again. According to him, Kasumi Yamaguchi has been missing for 20 years.”
Without another word, Melanie dashed out of the office and into the hall. 505 followed her.
Unfortunately, Melanie quickly found herself tripping and falling to her chest. Upon inspection, she tripped over…green hair. The sight of the green hair was followed with a mischievous giggle from Demencia. When Melanie looked up, there stood Black Hat.
505 shivered where he stood, wishing he could help while knowing he was powerless.
While still on the floor, Melanie scoffed and said, “I knew you couldn’t be far. What do you want with me now?”
Black tilted his head, cruelly smiled, and said, “"Then maybe you'll finally realize that escape is impossible. But that’s besides the point…"
He reached down and grabbed her face, lifting her up to him before continuing,"What I want from you is simple. To play bait for the Nun-ja."
“NO!” Melanie screeched, unleashing her scythe and using it to open a portal to heaven to separate herself and Black Hat with a portal to Heaven. “Over my dead body!”
Melanie then rode her scythe to her room as fast as she could.
As soon as she arrived, Melanie locked the door, grabbed her purse, ran to the bathroom, locked herself in, sat in the bathtub, and pulled out her phone. She quickly pulled out her app, pressed the group call function, put in her headphones, and began singing the specific, disturbing song she and Sensei Lucy had chosen as a code should a situation like this arise.
“It took so long to remember just what happened,” Melanie sung in a shaky voice. “I was so young and vestal then. You know it hurt me. But I’m breathing so I guess I’m still alive. Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise. Got my hands bound and my head down and my eyes closed and throat’s wide open. I do unto others, what has been done to me. Do unto others, what has been done to you. I’m treading water. I need to sleep a while. My lamb and martyr, you look so precious…”
Meanwhile, back in the hallway, Dementia was hissing and hiding behind Black Hat while Lord Reaper rushed out of the room with Flug behind him.
Lord Reaper held out his hand, shut the portal to heaven, and turned to face Black Hat with his arms crossed.
“Black Hat, why were you manhandling my granddaughter?” Lord Reaper asked pointedly.
After shielding his eyes from the heavenly light, Black Hat glared at Lord Reaper and asked, “What does it matter?”
“You told me you weren’t going to harm her!” Lord Reaper argued. “What are you trying to do?”
“I said I wouldn’t kill her!” Black Hat retorted. “Demencia! Flug! Get her now!”
“Leave her be,” Lord Reaper said, walking in front of Black Hat. “What else do we need her for? You’re going to burn her out. She needs rest.”
Black Hat clinched his fist and said, “I want the Nun-ja in my hands, so I can eradicate them! And if that parasite is the key, then so be it!”
Flug shyly cleared his throat and said, “My Lord, maybe Lord Reaper is right about her requiring rest. Perhaps she can be convinced in that time to be more c-cooperative.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Lord Reaper said. “What do you say, Black Hat?”
Black Hat’s eye twitched and he replied, “Do you realize how long I’ve waited for an opportunity to catch Kasumi Yamaguchi? That traitor has evaded my grasp for 20 years! This is the first opportunity I’ve had to catch her! I’m not losing that because of your little…”
“You won’t,” Lord Reaper reassured. “But my little Melanie is not as physically formidable as you and me yet. Her body has been weakened significantly by today’s events. She can’t continue under this pressure. We need to let her rest so that she can be of use to us later. Besides, she’s still a student. Isn’t she? What can she possibly learn if she’s constantly being bombarded? Let her rest for now and we can figure out how to continue in the meantime. What do you say?”
505 anxiously watched with Flug while Dementia was chomping at the bit to chase after Melanie.
Black Hat pondered and looked askance.
“Well?” Lord Reaper asked.
“Very well,” Black Hat said, waving his hand. “Just keep her from escaping.”
“Yes, Jefecito,” Flug said with a salute. “Come on, 505. Let’s go check on Melanie.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Q&A: Man United boss on Pogba, Sanchez and more
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took time out from Manchester United pre-season tour to speak to Sportsmail and the traveling media in Perth .
In a wide-ranging interview, the United manager discussions Paul Pogba Alexis Sanchez and the problem of spoon feeding modern-day footballers.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took time out from Manchester United's tour to speak to Sportsmail
Q: How does this United tour compare to pre-season at Molde?
A: Of course, it's different. When you're at Manchester United, everything is different, but I'm used to this from before. But, of course, it has moved on since I left as well. Everything, the fans, and football in general, it's bigger, there's more media interest, so it's nice.
Q: Do you sense the camp is revived now after the disappointing end to last season?
A: It was disappointing, the last few months, obviously. But they've come back and it's really encouraging. You didn't expect anything else though. You expected them to come back with a little bit of grit, but it's only two weeks into the pre-season and it's been very encouraging.
Q: Has it been as encouraging as you had hoped?
A: Yeah. Sometimes you expect players to be more negative and maybe we've been too kind to them, because they haven't moaned enough. Maybe the pre-season hasn't been hard enough. I can still remember when I was unable to walk down the stairs. You had to walk backwards and all this, but I don't think we've had them there yet.
The Norwegian is preparing to take charge of his first full season at the Premier League club
Q: You've been clear about playing front-foot, attacking football. Do you feel that going into the season do you want to have a squad of players more physically able to meet your expectations?
A: I would think so and that's obviously the aim now, to put the fitness in 11. But it's after the first international break, that's when the games come thick and fast.
You can almost call it pre-season, the first month of the season, because with the first four or five games there are no midweek games, so there's still time to build a foundation.
We needed it because the stats have shown we haven't been up there, but there is a big improvement . Like Scott (McTominay) said, they haven't had sessions like this last few pre-seasons.
Q: Can we expect a transformation in the way United look on the pitch?
A: You've got opposition that wants to play as well. But we have a clear aim and we want to look a certain way. We know it's going to take time. It might not be a transformation like (clicks fingers) "wow, that's a new team."
But I think most of us saw the intention on Saturday (against Perth Glory). We want to play on the front foot, but you can't do that for 90 minutes in 38 league games, that's hard in the Premier League.
Solskjaer is currently with his side Down Under as they prepare for the new domestic season
Q: Towards the end of last season there was a disconnect between the players and fans. Have you got a job on your hands to win back the trust?
A: I think it was a mentally draining season, and physically. But mentally because there were ups and downs, and especially when you change manager right in the middle it's also difficult.
We got a boost with the first few games, won a few, then got a few injuries and towards the end it was flat. It was flat towards the end and there are many reasons for that. We've just got to make sure we get more consistency.
Q: Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, two of the biggest coaching names in football, didn't make a great success of the job . What makes you think you can succeed?
A: It depends on what you think is success. They won trophies. I've admired Jose, Louis and David (Moyes). I admired them because I was still a player when they were successful managers. We're all different. I think they were more on the pitch, really on the pitch. That type of coach. I've got some great coaches that will do most of the coaching work. We're all different and we've all got different management styles.
The 46-year-old took over at Old Trafford following the departure of Jose Mourinho last year
Q: Only two players in and two out so far. Did you expect more change by this stage or pre-season?
A: I know it's hard getting players in and over the line. We've been doing our jobs. We've been finding and identifying players, scouting them. But they have got clubs.
It took time with Aaron (Wan-Bissaka) and it took time with Dan (James) but they got it over the line. It's not like we're going to sign 10 players. It can't be a quick fix.
As I've said to you, we're working on one or two and we're still hoping, but I also understand that the market has changed. Prices have soared.
Q: Is there a Man Utd tax? You always seem to end up paying more for players because the resources the club has.
A: We've been linked with so many players. I am sure you don't believe every single player that we have been linked with. Sometimes, because of the wealth, maybe we have had to pay more, a bigger premium to get players in. That's just the world we live in. We have tasks our time and we are not going to pay, but we have to get the right people in, the right players.
Daniel James, who signed from Swansea, is one of two new players to join so far this summer
Q: Is there a maximum of four players in?
A: No there is never any maximum. There are players here that are coming in pre-season as well that (I think) 'I might just have a look at him again because if he has changed as I think he has and it looks like, he might have a career here'
Q: You said after the Everton game last season that you will be successful at this club but some of the players wouldn't. Are you reconsidering your opinion or some of those players now?
A: No, on certain players yeah you do reconsider because there are only 11 players on the pitch and there are only 25 players that you can get into the squad.
Let's see three or four years down the line where we're at, if I've been successful and who's there. It's going to take time for players to buy into this and to see, "hmmm I'm not part of the plans, I might have to go."
Q: You've got a three -year contract. How long will it be before United are title challengers again?
A: I am always an optimist and let's see how we start off and how close we get this season. A successful season is if we win a trophy at this club. That's a good season.
You want to say Premier League, you want to say European League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, maybe in that order, but I am not going to how do you say it ? Discard? I am not going to say that we cannot, but it is not what we expect straightaway.
David De Gea, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, is now set to sign a new deal
But these players, if we get consistency and get those margins hopefully we can get David (De Gea's contract) about the line and signed and we might be contenders, who knows?
Q: With the Europa League, is that a trophy you really want to win and how will you approach it? Will there be a chance for the young ones?
A: Yeah, I think it'll be a chance for some of the young ones, definitely. Then again, it's a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League for next season, so I think you'll see quite a few of the young 'uns you've seen already.
They are exciting and we need to blood them in the right tournament. It depends on who you play and on the stage of the tournament. It's always a puzzle. Every weekend is a puzzle, you can't plan three months down the line.
Q: Is the Europa League just as good a route back into the Champions League as the Premier League?
A: It's a route but in cup competitions you never know, it's the luck of the dice, it's post and in, post and out. It's over the season and if we can get the consistency in the league and get a settled team in the league, I'm sure we've got a chance or getting closer to the top two. Let's see how close.
The Norwegian is looking to take United back to the top four after a disappointing season
Q: After six difficult years, are fans more accepting that you won't be right at the top again within 12 months?
A: Our fans know about football. Many have followed as you say, successful years, but there have been many who have been before that as well. Probably you don't see them on Twitter or social media, so you don't hear from them as much. The young ones that have just had the success are maybe like, "where's that?"
But the Premier League has changed. You have to say City how good they were last year, Liverpool won the Champions League, Tottenham in the final, Chelsea and Arsenal. When I played there were two – us and Arsenal – for a long, long time and then Chelsea came in.
Q: Do you feel like you're a long way behind City and Liverpool?
A: It did feel like it towards the end of last season but it didn't feel like it in the beginning when I came in. In the 21 games we had when I came in, we were still third in that 21-game period. That is including the bad spell at the end. It was only those two that were consistent, so we're still third in that respect.
Q: In the game against City were you just trying to find a way to stop them?
A: They were better than us, definitely. But there are chances and listening to the coaching staff we were closer than we were in the years before. They felt that was a better performance than a couple of times before. But they were exceptional last season, I have to admit that.
Bernardo Silva celebrates during Manchester City's victory at Old Trafford back in April
Q: You're used to meeting challenges and winning them at United. When you look at City and Pep Guardiola, is that a challenge you can win?
A: I think we have got to focus on ourselves. I don't think I can look at Liverpool or City and think 'they are doing it this way, we've got to do it that way'.
We've got to focus on us, and I believe in these players. They have shown me what they are capable of. They have also shown some negative sides, which we have got to work on; get better habits and get consistency in training which will get consistency in games and results.
So, yeah, you look at those two clubs, (Jurgen) Klopp and Pep, and as I said about Jose and Louis. I have no problem saying good things about people, and they are good coaches, good managers. But we have to find our own way. We can't do it their way, we have to focus on what is going on at this club.
Q: United hierarchy have been impressed by the discipline you have brought back. On the negative side there have been some incidents like Jesse Lingard's holiday video which attracts a lot or controversy. Did you feel the need to speak to him about that?
A: That has been dealt with internally. I am old school, old fashioned, quite big on discipline. I am quite big on self-discipline and I cannot spoon feed all these players, they have got to do it themselves.
which players have been successful and those characters. You've got to be a strong character to play here. It is not like I can tell them to pass from A to B to C to D.
Q: You have said that United could do with a player and leader like Bryan Robson. Sis that something you feel like you're missing?
A: From the talks I've had with many managers and coaches from my generation, when we played, I think it's a general society thing as well that there are less Robbos and Keanos around.
Solskjaer recently said that United could do with a player and leader like Bryan Robson
It's the same in Norway. We're all too comfortable. Life is so comfortable. It's easy now when you're an academy player you make so much money (and think) 'well I've made it'. And the parents live through their kids.
I admired Robbo. I've heard Gary (Neville), Becks (David Beckham) all of them talk about Robbo. I played with Keano (Roy Keane) and I think any manager in the world would say I would love to have that type of leader.
Look at City. (Vincent) Kompany. Who knows what will happen? Because he was a fantastic human being, player and leader so someone else has to step up. And someone else has step by step for us.
Paul Pogba is one of your big players. How confident are you that you can put this unsettled summer he's behind you and get him back onside for next season?
A: I've said many times about Paul he's a top, top boy and a great player and he's never, ever been a problem. When we get him playing as he did when I came in, and if we get him playing like that again, he will win you over.
Q: Are there any circumstances where Pogba will be sold? What's the situation now following the comments from him and his agent?
A: I've got to be careful. I can't dive into all this and hypothetical questions and all that. But we've not had offers. I can say the same about whichever player. If we don't get a offer for a player we don't have a offer for them, don't we, so we didn't have offers.
Q: Last season after speaking to you were convinced he wanted to be successful here, then he goes on holiday and says he wants a new challenge. Is that personally upsetting to you?
A: No. I've not been upset by anything he's said because we've had many conversations and I know exactly what Paul is thinking. I can give him a new challenge.
Paul Pogba has been angling for a move away from United in search of a 'new challenge'
Q: Is the attraction for Paul that he can be part of something really big?
A: Many of these players haven't felt the winning feeling at this club, what it is like to be at this club when you win. Yes David (De Gea) won the league, Ash (Young) has won the league and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling they have won the league here. But it's not consistently like we were. Then this club is a fantastic place to be.
Jesse, Marcus (Rashford), Paul (Pogba), Andreas (Pereira), the ones that have been in the academy when I was playing, when we went on that run early on some of them said 'wow we have never had this feeling before'.
But, for me, the gaffer (Sir Alex Ferguson) would say, 'we need to win straight games to win the league – that's not much to ask is it? Ten games in a row? ' And it wasn't.
That's the feeling I had all the time, we can win the next 10. And they felt invincible in that period. That is the winning feeling we want to create again.
Q: Marouane Fellaini, and Other Herrera have left. Are you comfortable with your midfield like it is? You've got James Garner coming through.
A: Jimmy is young, only 18, so you can't expect much from him, but you can see he's going to be a top player
Andreas I expect a lot more from, Scotty I expect a lot more from. Those two between them had maybe 15-20 starts last season. You expect them to have at least 20 each this season maybe even more. That's maybe two players into one that can replace Other.
"Jimmy is young, only 18, so you can't expect too much," the manager said of James Garner (R)
Q: City have signed Rodri and have some exceptional midfielders available. How long before you can reach that level of recruitment?
A: I can't say x amount of months or years before we are where they are. We've just got to focus on improving every day at this club. I know the difference between a post in and a post out. That's not a lot but it means so much at the end with the points if you win or lose that game.
Q: Do you have a replacement in mind if you sell Romelu Lukaku or will you bring
A: If we sell players, we will have to replace them.
Q: What's your feeling on a technical director?
A: I have a direct line to Ed (Woodward), Matt (Judge) and Mick (Court – technical chief scout). We are quite close in that respect. If there is someone in between us, technical director call it whatever you like, I'm happy with that either way because it's not going to be too big a difference.
Q: Recruitm a problem for the club for a We do have our process on how we scout players now, but once in a while number of years?
A: It's never a problem – it's a challenge.
Solskjaer works with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward when it comes to transfers
Q: But compared to the rivals are you trying to catch, does something need to change?
A: That's your opinion. I can only talk from my period. I wanted Aaron and Dan James. They were very high targets. Aaron was a top target. We can't expect David Beckham or Ryan Giggs straightaway but he will be a top player. He's not a £ 70million player, no, but he'll be worth it.
Q: Can you get Alexis Sanchez back to his best?
A: I will have to help. I've just answered a question here that you can't spoon feed them. They've got to come in and grab their chances and Alexis is quality and he showed it in Copa America. Then he got his injury. I don't think it's too bad so I'm hoping he will be available for maybe Kristiansund or AC Milan so he will at least get some football before the season starts.
Q: He got 30 goals for Arsenal as a center-forward?
A: The way we hope we are going to play, it doesn't have a 6ft 4in striker, so Alexis can be part of that forward
Q: Are you planning for him to be here next season?
A: At the moment, yes I am.
Alexis Sanchez has struggled in front of goal since joining United from rivals Arsenal

Run The Trap’s Top 25 Hip-Hop Songs Of 2018
It’s no easy task to rank the top songs of a genre for a full year, and it’s especially difficult when that genre is as all-encompassing as hip-hop. And it was an amazing year as hip-hop dominated the charts and massive albums like Scorpion, Astroworld, and Kamikaze exploded. Without further ado, our top 25 hip-hop songs of 2018.
Run the Trap’s Top 25 Hip-Hop Songs Of 2018 | SoundCloud Playlist
25. Mac Miller – Self Care
This is a good example of a song that absolutely had to make the cut. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and Mac Miller was an example of an underrated puzzle piece in the American hip-hop culture. His song “Self Care” rocketed through the charts following his passing from a drug overdose, as many connected with the message in a year that brought mental health to the forefront of American conversations, especially within the music community.
24. The Carters – APESHIT
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have always been a super team, but when they teamed up to release one of the year’s biggest hits in “APESHIT”, everyone lost it. The beat is simple, but the rappers’ lines and flow are flawless. The track references their come up through the game to their current life of luxury, a theme found throughout much of The Carter’s rap discography. Also, “APESHIT” was one of Barack Obama’s favorite songs in 2018, so there’s that.
23. A$AP Rocky – Praise The Lord
Popular within meme culture as well as the radio, A$AP Rocky‘s “Praise The Lord” was one of this year’s top hits. This song also was part of a growing movement within the UK Rap Scene, as it featured the prominent UK rapper Skepta. As part of his album Testing, A$AP Rocky discusses his religious and spiritual beliefs, landing him at number twenty-three on the list.
22. Eminem – Killshot
Aim. Fire. “Killshot.” That’s exactly what Eminem did to poor Machine Gun Kelly, in a diss track firing back at Kelly’s “Rap Devil” diss track. As most diss tracks are, this track is entirely focused on the lyrical elements, including Eminem’s typical amazing word play and heavy burns.
21. SR3MM – Powerglide
Contrary to the Eminem track, this song is mainly driven by Mally Mall, Jean Hovart and Mike Will Made It’s incredible production – no disrespect to SR3MM. A catchy and pop-styled hip-hop song, “Powerglide” was probably on your Spotify’s repeat earlier this summer.
21. Lil Baby – Drip Too Hard
The lead single from Lil Baby and Gunna’s debut collaborative album, Drip Harder, “Drip Too Hard” is part of Lil Baby’s explosion into the rap scene. Both the song and album title are homages to Lil Baby and Gunna’s respective “Hard” and “Drip” series of mixtapes and albums. Keep an eye on Lil Baby as he continues his progression in the rap scene, with his lead single landing him at twenty-one on the list.
19. Lil Peep & XXXTENTACION – Falling Down
An alternative version of the song “Sunlight On Your Skin” which features iLoveMakonnen, “Falling Down” instead features XXXTENTACION and was made after Lil Peep’s death. There was some alleged controversy, as Lil Peep’s team claims that Peep had no intention of releasing that version of the song due to XXXTENTACION’s history. iLoveMakonnen, who was featured on the original version of the song, said on his Instagram that he was “honored to have co-written this song that X was inspired to be a part of, shortly before he died”.
18. Post Malone – Better Now
Post Malone might be hip-hop’s favorite nice guy. Known for his hilarious internet antics, Posty has risen to the top as a fan favorite. In “Better Now”, Post Malone reminisces about a past relationship, claiming both he and his ex miss each other though both are trying to mask their feelings. Both feel that they let each other down in some way but it was never their intention. Post suggests if they met up with each other again there is a possibility they could hook up again. In a top sad boy rap song of 2018, “Better Now” lands at number eighteen
17. Travis Scott – STARGAZING
As you have heard across rap this year and will see as this list continues, 2018 found many popular songs to have choppy arrangement, with some combining seemingly different songs into one unique track. “STARGAZING” continues the trend, opening up with an atmospheric feel as Travis Scott describes the experience of an unpredictable psychedelic trip. Switching between his regular cadence and an auto-tuned falsetto, Scott alludes to his drug use and relationship with Kylie Jenner and their daughter Stormi. The song then switches into a much tighter, more aggressive mix, where Scott goes absolutely in. The song title could be a reference to Houston’s iconic ties to astrological exploration, with NASA’s Mission Control Center being located in Travis’s hometown. It wouldn’t be surprising, as Scott makes references to Houston multiple times throughout the album.
16. Drake – Nonstop
Quickly stepping out of the nameless/faceless/objective writer persona, I have to say “Nonstop” is my personal favorite rap song in 2018. TayKieth, who has produced tons of songs on this list, absolutely murdered this song…like MURDERED it. The song opens up with that incredulously large sub-loop, paired with a perfectly mixed kick and beautifully crisp, high-end drums. The production on this song is A1, and there simply isn’t enough to be said about it.
Drake’s vocals enter stage left, introduced by the definitive statement that he “just flipped a switch,” setting the tone for the incoming tirade about his nonstop success in the rap scene. Many of Drake’s lyrics also allude to the conflict he faced with Pusha-T and Kanye West over the summer, and Drake confirmed on HBO’s “The Shop” that he channeled much of his frustration from that into tracks like “Nonstop”.
15. Kanye West – All Mine
The top song on his 2018 album Ye, Kanye talks about the topic of infidelity. Happily married to Kim Kardashian, West goes on to talk about controlling his desires while in a committed relationship. With his line “letting the genie out the bottle,” West alludes to an action that cannot be reversed, such as cheating. Kanye goes as far to call out many celebrities for their infidelity, including Tristian Thompson, who was exposed for cheating on his then-pregnant partner Khloe Kardashian, Kanye’s sister-in-law.
14. Lil Wayne – Uproar (feat. Swizz Beatz)
In an album that was supposed to be released in 2014, but was delayed for multiple years due to conflict with Cash Money Records label-boss Birdman, Lil Wayne warns his enemies to stop playing with him before he causes an “Uproar”. Ecstatic to see the New Orleans native back in action, fans across the globe clambered to get a listen to Wayne’s newest release, and they were not disappointed.
13. Travis Scott – Butterfly Effect
Produced by Murda Beatz, “Butterfly Effect” builds on the quintessential Travis Scott spacey ad libs and builds an environment to match, with a beautiful repeating melody and soft percussion. The ‘butterfly effect’ is the concept that small causes can have large effects. Travis Scott is also using a double-entendre with “butterfly” wherein as he refers to the doors on his Lamborghini car. First released as a single off his ASTROWORLD album, “Butterfly Effect” is one of the top songs off Scott’s album, landing number thirteen on the list overall.
12. Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future & James Blake – King’s Dead
We’ve already discussed how great the music video for “King’s Dead” was, and almost a year later it seems that this song is deserving of a top honor. Our original article for the music video, which was released the same day the Black Panther was released in theaters, could not have predicted the quality of the epic soundtrack.
11. Migos – Walk It Talk It
So many more songs from Culture II could be included on this list, but as mentioned in the article’s preface, we can only pick 25. “Walk It Talk It” was clearly the most popular song off of Culture II, with over 300,000 streams on Spotify alone. In “Walk It Talk It,” Migos and Drake take jabs at fake people around them who can’t walk the life that they talk about. As some of the top artists in the game right now, Migos and Drake are clearly walking it like they talk it, landing them at number eleven on the list.
10. Kanye West & Lil Pump – I Love It
Weird music video, great song. Kanye West teamed up with Lil Pump to create one of this year’s top songs in “I Love It.” Sure, Kanye may be struggling with some issues in the public eye, but his production skills haven’t lost their touch.
The video debuted at the inaugural Pornhub Awards in Los Angeles, California. Kanye linked with PornHub following an interview in which Jimmy Kimmel asked Kanye if having daughters had changed Kanye’s attitude toward women, to which he replied, “Nah, I still look at Pornhub.”
9. BlocBoy JB – Look Alive (feat. Drake)
An homage to his hometown of Memphis, BlocBoy JB‘s “Look Alive” was a standout of the year. Featuring Drake, the track was released via OVO Sound and is easily his most successful track to date surpassing over 505 million streams on Spotify. This track lands up-and-comer Blocboy JB at number nine.
8. Drake – Nice For What
Drake’s “Nice For What” takes the cake as the female empowerment song of 2018. With relatable lyrics supported by a New Orleans styled bounce beat, Drake and Murda Beatz aim to create something women can “cut up to.” With female driven lyrics littered throughout the song, the message is further supported by NOLA’s Big Freedia, a figure of empowerment within the rap scene.
From a sonic perspective, “Nice For What” is known for its choppy arrangement. At one point, BlaqNmilD abruptly cuts the beat, leaving just the kick and female vocals before the listener is suddenly warned to “watch the breakdown,” transitioning the song back into its high energy, percussive bounce beat. Drake and his team absolutely destroyed this song, leaving “Nice For What” at number nine on the list.
7. Juice WRLD – Lucid Dreams
Juice WRLD‘s “Lucid Dreams” explores the pain of a breakup through the metaphor of a Lucid Dream, a state of awareness during one’s dream that allows the dreamer to control the reality they are perceiving. As Juice goes through the stages of his breakup, he aims to control his mental reality by simply forgetting his ex, pushing aside the universal stress and heartache that comes after any breakup. Nick Mira’s beat puts the listener in the mind of Juice’s dreams, as soft, atmospheric bells dance around while Juice delivers his promise to control his reality and emotions.
6. Cardi B– I Like It
Complete with horns, Latin Grooves, and an infectious trap beat, Cardi B flaunts her Latin heritage in “I Like It.” Released as a part of her album Invasion Of Privacy at the top of the year, Cardi B won over thousands of new fans, and established herself as one of the top artists in today’s age. The song samples Pete Rodriguez’s 1967 boogaloo song “I Like It Like That”, and guest features Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny and Colombian reggaetón star J Balvin.
5. Drake – In My Feelings
The “In My Feelings” challenge was one of the most viral video challenges of 2018, as thousands of American’s found themselves dancing to the beat, their moves synchronized to the famous catchy chorus. As the song shifts from Drake’s emotional rant, the City Girls come in and crush a hook layered over a sample of Magnolia Shorty’s “Smoking Gun,” a New Orleans styled bounce track originally produced by BlaqNmilD. This is the second bounce track on the top 25, both of which were produced as part of Drake’s Scorpion.
4. Childish Gambino – This Is America
This Is America. Don’t catch you slipping up. Childish Gambino‘s internet sensation was easily the most woke song of 2018, with its famous music video decrypting the hype song as much more than just a summer banger. Gambino’s commentary spoke to the day to day internet nonsense that is distracting the American people from addressing today’s important social issues. On top of the important message “This Is America” brought to the forefront of conversation, the beat, play-on-words, and cinematography of the music video were grade A works of art, landing “This Is America” at number 4 on 2018’s list.
3. XXTENTACION – SAD!
With over 780 Million streams on Spotify, XXXTENTACION‘s “SAD!” is clearly a top 5 song of 2018. A somber song about love, “SAD!” has resonated with millions of rap fans this year.
2. Travis Scott – Sicko Mode
Nothing is more hype than sitting in a club, and all of the sudden you hear those infamous, horn-like chords that open up the song. Travis Scott‘s “Sicko Mode” was an instant hit upon its release. With a dynamic and tight mix that features lines from Scott and Drake, listeners found themselves on an ASTROWORLD roller coaster, with twists and turns as the song progressed across its three sections. As one of the ultimate turn up songs of 2018, “Sicko Mode” lands at number two on the list.
1. Drake – God’s Plan
“God’s Plan” is by far the most popular hip-hop song of 2018. With 1.1 BILLION streams on Spotify alone and another 900 million on his epic music video, Drake cemented himself as the top hip-hop artist of 2018. There isn’t much more that needs to be said about the number one song on this list, as it has been on repeat the entire year across clubs, radio stations, and Spotify playlists.

Past, Present, and What’s on the Horizon – An Interview with Tritonal
Tritonal is a production duo and DJ tandem made up of Chad Cisneros and David Reed. They are co-owners of the record label, Enhanced Music, and radio hosts on their Sirius XM Electric Area show, Tritonia.
The duo formed in 2008 and quickly rose to the label ranks, starting off on the British record label, Anjunabeats, and eventually moving to Will Holland’s Enhanced Music, which they currently co-own. Their debut album, Piercing the Quiet, crushed the Beatport charts, landing 8 singles in the top 20, and 5 #1 singles on the Trance charts. They remixed Piercing the Quiet, which lead to a top 5 placement on iTunes dance album charts.
They released their Metamorphic EP trilogy from 2013-2014, cracking the top Five on Billboard’s Airplay Dance chart with the single, Now Or Never featuring Phoebe Ryan. In 2015, Now Or Never became a sports anthem for CBS’s Thursday Night NFL broadcasts.
In 2015, they went on tour with Cash Cash on their Untouchable Tour, selling out major city venues such as New York’s Terminal 5, San Francisco’s Warfield, and L.A.’s Club Nokia. They also collaborated with The Chainsmokers on their single, Until You Were Gone, and remixed Adam Lambert’s Ghost Town, boosting their streaming success online.
Last year, they released their Painting With Dreams album with hit singles such as Blackout, Getaway, I Feel The Love, and Rewind. They’ve toured the world, playing primetime hours at major festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Escape From Wonderland, Ultra Music Festival, Electric Zoo Festival, and Creamfields Australia.
They recently released their label’s 300th track, Good Thing ft. Laurell. They’ve also released an official remix of Armin Van Buuren’s Sunny Days featuring Josh Cumbee. This fall, Tritonal is set to go on their Horizon Tour with Seven Lions and Kill The Noise.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Tritonal below. Take a listen to their new remix, then listen to their new featured singles on Soundcloud and read the full interview below to get the FULL Tritonal experience. Chad and David answered questions separately.
INTERVIEW:
Where does the name Tritonal come from?
Chad: A Tritone is a musical interval, otherwise known as a chord. It’s a diminished 5th to be exact or an augmented 4th. It has a very dissonant sound, and the actual word Tritonal is an explosive. It’s 80% TNT, and we thought that musical explosivity is super rad!
Where are you from and how has that shaped the musician you are today?
Chad: We’re both from Austin, TX – although Dave grew up close to Washington DC. Im not sure geographic region influenced our love of Electronic Dance Music a lot in the early days since we were finding most of our music online! That said, Austin is a thriving live music area, and we get to see / hear loads of different cool bands!
What instruments did you play when you were younger?
Chad: Dave played Piano, and still does. I don’t particularly play anything, although was academically trained at University for Audio Engineering. We use our instincts when it comes to music, and always bring it back to “how does this make me feel?”
Are there an instruments that you currently wish you COULD play?
Chad: Definitely! I wish I had been more studious at learning piano; it’s so fundamental in writing. It’s definitely handicap at times, and I am constantly reminded of it! That said, we work really hard at our sound design, arrangements, and go with our instinctive guts on harmony and musicality.
Tell us the story of how you started creating music on your computer?
Chad: I actually started making old school beats on gear, a Roland MC-505 Groovebox and a Korg Triton Workstation. We saved our tracks on Floppy Disks! lol!
Dave started noodling with FL Studio when he was about 12 years old after listening to a Tiesto album.
What was your favorite studio moment when producing your Label, Enhanced’s, 300th release, Good Thing ft. Laurell?
Chad: Hands down when we nailed the acoustic guitar counter riff with our boy, Teal. We kept sending back n’ forth notes on the rhythm and melody of it. It’s such a mainstay of the vibe!
Tell us about your new remix for Armin van Buuren.
Chad: Well obviously we respect Armin as an artist so much, but much more as a human. He’s such a great person. We have been close with him for years and have played a few of his massive ASOT celebrations at Ultra, EDC, and in Amsterdam. Although our sound has changed, we really wanted to give this record a euphoric twist.
What do you like to do when you’re simply hanging out – aside from music?
Chad: My wife and I just had Twins! Wow, they’re so adorable, but can also be so much work! I honestly can’t take credit, as my wife is the one who deserves all of it. She has somehow maintained an amazing home for all of us, and I’m just blessed to be a part of it. We have 3 kids now, and thats gonna be all for us!
Dave and I work out, we go on hikes, and hang out with friends when in Austin. It’s such a great city this time of year!
Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
Chad: As someone in recovery, who’s been sober for almost 12 years – this plays a big part of my extracurricular activities. Super active in meetings, sponsoring and mentoring others, and I also co-own and operate an Inpatient / Outpatient Detox Treatment Facility called Infinite Recovery here in Austin. We treat alcoholism and drug addiction, helping people put their lives back together.
Who are your musical influences?
Chad: Both of our favorite band is Coldplay. We also love Jon Hopkins and Nils Frahm. We listen to so much music each week preparing for our radio show Tritonia, that we stay pretty involved in whats current. Hard not to be inspired by so much awesome music out there!
Who is one of your favorite acts right now to watch live?
Dave: Cold play is pretty exciting; however, we enjoy a lot of acts including Galantis live! We like how they innovate with their drums and percussion fused in with their DJ set!
What are some of your favorite venues to play and why?
Dave: We really love Terminal 5 in New York, Echostage in DC and venues similar! They’re so much fun to play, watching a seething, soaring mass of people get down with our music. It’s awesome.
What are some of your favorite cities to play-in and why?
Dave: We are fortunate to be able to have played in many great cities! We really enjoy playing out in Hawaii though, as it’s a complete switch from the normal vibe of travel. It’s nice to change it up and maybe bring the family sometimes.
What DAW do you use and why?
Dave: We use Logic Pro mostly! We’ve come from a variety of DAWs and feel Logic supports our needs overall rather than switching between many programs. However, we do use Ableton Live frequently!
Do you have a typical music production process? If yes, can you explain it?
Dave: Indeed we do! Between the two of us, we like to start with the peak of the record, i.e the “drop” as some would say. It helps us understand where the most intense threshold of the record is, and then we like to boil it down from there to help prepare our verse, pre, etc. It’s a great method we feel works for us.
What is your favorite MIDI Controller or instrument to produce with right now?
Dave: Honestly, we’ve still been rocking our good ole’ M-Audio AXIOMs! But we’re all about upgrading our gear as we see fit!
What is one of your favorite or go-to VST Plugin?
Dave: Whew there are many we love to pinpoint here, including spire, nexus, avenger, sylenth and we really love Omnisphere! It’s super awesome!
Do you have a key production tip for our young producers out there?
Dave: Definitely! Whenever you begin your mix, especially if it pertains to something more vocal heavy, we like to bring the entire mix down a bit by a few DBs. Then, we can properly hear our levels when mixing in drums, leads, bass, etc. You don’t need to blow your ears at high volumes to get your mix proper – take your time
What is your favorite color?
Dave: haha! Anything on Phillip’s HUE!
Do you have a favorite in-studio snack?
Dave: haha we do! Almonds or apples is the way! At times, you might catch us with some of those Peanut M&M’S though!
What is next for Tritonal?
Dave: Quite a bit actually!! Not only do we have some new music coming down the pipeline soon, but we’ve also got a dope tour lined up along with Seven Lions and Kill the Noise this fall called the Horizon Tour!

13 Ways of Looking at Intersectionality, A Numbered Multimodal Multi-Genre Research Composition
Tell a story
It was a hot summer in New York and Chrystel, fresh out of college, is looking for work. She needed the work because she’s attending graduate school and needs the money to pay for tuition, She is trying to get her masters in finance. Majoring and even mastering in finance is a risky move. Why? Because America is a white supremacy and the business world is not only a predominately white world (The Black Man’s Guide to Working in a White Man’s World, Lamay Lathan) it is also male dominated. We all know from today’s economy how hard it is to get a job. How is this a problem? Well Chrystel is a colored woman, meaning she is a double minority which further increases the odds of being against her. However, it wasn’t impossible, just really difficult. That didn’t stop her, she believed she was more than qualified. She just graduated from McGill University, one of the top three universities in Canada, with an outstanding 4.0 GPA. Chrystel also had experience from her internship, working as consultant and analyst at Rio Tinto, which is a British-Australian multinational and one of the world's largest metals and mining corporations. She was brimming with confidence that she would get offers in New York. She took a leap of faith and landed face first. Companies were reluctant on giving her offers and when she did get one, the pay-grade was not up to par with what of her contemporaries. You would think with such an impressive resume that companies would line up. Doubt started to consume her. Maybe She had to go back to Canada where she studied, which she disliked to the heavy winter seasons or give up her dream all-together and return to homeland known as Haiti and rot there. She decided to try one last time, hoping all that hard work was not in vain. Chrystel later went to this company called Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs interviewed her and welcomed her with open arms. She is now currently living the dream, making money and living that gentrified life in Brooklyn.
Write and extend an analogy or metaphor
Intersectionality is like that one dorky kid you would never had given a chance to prove himself. Like that dorky kid, he is a person who is afflicted with many things that society would classify as weird and “unnatural”. Let’s not forget that the person is in fact a person and we should judge his ability or capability just from his appearance. Who are you to say whether or not that the dorky kid is unable to fit in with the rest of the world. Instead of helping him and improve, society shuns him and puts him in a corner, not even thinking of the possibility of giving him a chance because they deem him/her beneath them. They are so many preconceptions that people make and that leads to make the wrong decisions. You have no idea what that so called dork could offer to the world. Don’t belittle him because he looks and sounds different, embrace him and try to understand him and his point of view. By humbling yourself and give that person a chance you in turn will grow in mature into a fine human being. By ignoring the dork, you will breed hate and contempt. It is not his/ her fault that no one is willing to look at and notice him, so that person is left with two options. Either to stay in that corner and hate himself for having characteristics that society deems unworthy, or he has to give up his nerdy ways and become what society deems normal and natural. The answer should be neither, we, as society must accept the person as is.

Quotes:
“My grandmother and my two aunts were an exhibition in resilience and resourcefulness and black womanhood. They rarely talked about the unfairness of the world with the words that I use now with my social justice friends, words like "intersectionality" and "equality", "oppression", and "discrimination". They didn't discuss those things because they were too busy living it, navigating it, surviving it.” ― Janet Mock, Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More

5 Reasons Intersectionality Matters, Because Feminism Cannot Be Inclusive Without It

Intersectionality: how gender interacts with other social identities to shape bias
http://theconversation.com/intersectionality-how-gender-interacts-with-other-social-identities-to-shape-bias-53724
RHETORICAL ANALYSIS
For those who do not know, identity categories such as gender and race are more than often conflated. Due to these combination, it is easier to marginalize those who don’t follow the restrictions or confines of the most influential group. We as a society often ignore intragroup differences and this ignorance bolsters the margination of minorities, especially women of color. By overlooking these differences, it creates tension between the groups. In Kimberle Crenshaw’s paper, “Mapping the Margins of Intersectionality”, she explores and exposes this intersectionality by analyzing cases that involves women of color. Crenshaw makes the case that race and gender intersects” Concerns of minority women fall into the void between concerns about women’s issues and concerns about racism” (1282). The representation of women of color in our society demands to be closely analyzed through “representational intersectionality”. Crenshaw gave the example of the 2 Live Crew and their prosecution for obscenity. Although the people who were against the actions of the rap group had their fair criticism, Crenshaw took another perspective and focuses on the tolerance of violence against women of color. Crenshaw found it weird that the 2 Live Crew were prosecuted for obscenity because many other popular rap groups were doing the similar things. She considered that 2 live Crew being an all-black recording group played a role for them being the first recording group to be prosecuted. She proved her point by giving examples of other popular artists and groups such as Madonna, and she was ignored by prosecution. However, here lies the problem; In all this mess, the interest of the black women that were used for the performance were ignored. Since women of color are portrayed as self-objectifying, the images of the performers were used to leverage the prosecution case. Crenshaw was very analytical during her entire piece, amazing how she suppressed her emotions. She gives clear examples and sends a dagger to conclude her points. Truly a brilliant mind capable of bringing a social revolution. "At this point in history, a strong case can be made that the most critical resistance strategy for disempowered groups is to occupy and defend a politics of social location rather than to vacate and destroy it" (1297).
VISUAL ANALYSIS
This image by everyday feminism demonstrates how blind society is to intersectionality, including fellow feminists. The image is supposed to promote awareness and proving that intersectionality exists and is an issue. The image starts with an argument between a genuinely concerned male who wonders why the movement is called Feminism rather than equalist or humanist and two feminists proving their point on why the movement is indeed called so. Later, after winning the argument, since women always win those, we see the white feminist being oblivious of the problems of her fellow black feminist. She asks her, presumably, friend, why should there be a black feminism. The white woman fails to see the disadvantage of not only being a woman but also being a black woman (lowering her chances of equal pay and employment). This satire image pokes fun at people who are oblivious to the problem and shows a simple example of intersectionality. The image would be well received by those affected by the problem, mostly women of color and empowers them. The other party, those being oblivious, could enjoy the satire to some extent; willing that they have the sense of humor to do so. Since the image is just there to poke fun, I do believe it is a positive image overall. I don’t think, in my opinion, it disempowers the other party. The conclusion that I came to was that, it’s easy to feign ignorance of the effects of overlapping factors that would negatively affect people.
It is easy to feign ignorance of the effects of overlapping factors that would negatively affect people’s daily lives. Most people act on self-interest, therefore, they are oblivious to problems occurring in plain sight. The image may be in fun and games, however, this is a real and serious issue that everyone turns a blind eye. Ignorance creates a negative atmosphere, because you may harm people without even knowing. The white feminist from the image is an example of it, she fails to be aware of her friend’s disadvantages. Intersectionality disempowers people, it makes their problems invisible to the public. It’s a cruel injustice because first of all unless you experience similar problems you won’t be able to relate. Second, because of so many different factors working against the affected, it is almost impossible to solve it yet alone deal with it in a day to day basis. Third, the factors that contribute to intersectionality were implemented by society. It is deep rooted in our society, meaning it’s harder to deal with. Intersectionality doesn’t care who it affects (unless you are filthy rich), It will hit minorities of all ages including homosexuals and I daresay trans-genders.
Compare and Contrast
Intersectionality is a touchy subject with people having various stances and views on the subject. Some give praise to Kimberle Crenshaw for exposing this so called invisible problem and deem her as an activist hero. According to Noah Wingard, he believes that intersectionality is indeed real and was more evident during the women’s march against Trump “Despite the success for the protest gaining significant visibility for women’s rights issues, many were conflicted over the lack of representation for pro-life women, women of color, LGBT women, and other groups that have significance in women’s rights issues” (Why intersectionality in modern civil rights struggles is failing). He explained that intersectionality played a role in the dissatisfaction of most activists. Saying how the marches failed to represent the issues most of these people face. some downright shut her down saying that the theory of intersectionality destroys the progress that the progressive movement have made. According to Jinna Ziller, she believes that intersectionality does not solve social problems such as racism or sexism, rather it perpetuates it “White or male should NOT translate to privileged because that IS RACISM and SEXISM. It is not different from what was done in the past, just because it is a new group being discriminated against doesn’t make it okay, it doesn’t make it not racism” (Women Against Feminism). Ziller believes that intersectionality is the new racism and sexism. She argues that intersectionality promotes infighting between feminist groups. It’s amazing to see how each opinion is an extreme, are for or against. There is no sweet spot.

EXPERT OPINION
Before I even begin on the analysis, I will write down reasons why I chose this source and why I consider important. The scholar I used for this piece is Ange-Marie Hancock and the topic is on her book, Intersectionality: An Intellectual History. Ange-Marie Hancock graduated from Yale University and has wrote the award winning The Politics of Disgust and the Public Identity of the “Welfare Queen,”. She is also a globally recognized scholar on the study of Intersectionality. In her book, Intersectionality: An Intellectual History, Hancock identifies two ways that intersectionality works. One as in "an inclusionary project designed to remedy specific instances of intersectional stigma or invisibility" (34) and the other as "an analytical project designed to reshape how categories of difference are conceptually related to each other" (34). Hancock tackled on “The Activist Roots of Intersectionality," where she revealed the "multiple and overlapping movements to end violence against women" and their mobilizations of intersectional logics. She also believed that History had a tremendous effect on shaping intersectionality. In which she says "We Are Named by Others and We Are Named by Ourselves", this means that Hancock believes that history has a relationship and is conjunction with intersectionality through social constructivism. This leads her to her conclusion that historical power led to intersectionality. How society continues to avoid and forget these problems (intersectionality) which further gives power to the problem. Which further gives proof to my point that ignorance is bliss.
RESEARCH QUESTION DIALOGUE
o Research Question: How come people are blind to Intersectionality?
Gio: before you answer my research question, what is intersectionality?
Sources: Intersectionality is the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.
Gio: Who came up with the term intersectionality and who is this person?
Sources: The term was first coined by Kimberle Crenshaw, Crenshaw is an American civil rights advocate and a leading scholar of the field known as critical race theory.
Gio: why do we use intersectionality, what are the benefits?
Sources: When applied effectively, intersectionality is a powerful tool for analyzing and addressing rights violations. Using it to guide our thinking and work means we have to move away from single- Utilizing an intersectional approach means the difference between saving lives and further worsening people’s experiences of discrimination.
Gio: Since intersectionality is the creation of overlapping systems of discrimination, it’s safe to say that only minorities are affected?
Sources: Yes, because the theory of Intersectionality is based on the concept that oppressive institutions within a society, such as racism, ageism, sexism, and homophobia.
Gio: I see, so minorities experience intersectionality in their daily lives without even knowing. This must certainly happen in the workforce right?
Sources: Take a black men’s experiences in professional occupations for instance, they reap some benefits as males in male-dominated professions, but experience challenges as racial minorities.
Gio: I saw you use black men as in an example, usually when I research about intersectionality it’s mostly about women of color, can you explain why?
Sources: Well, because women are treated unequal in the first place; they are treated more poorly when it’s a woman of color. Consider it a double minority.
Gio: All right, then explain to me How does social context influence our perceptions of race, class, and gender?
Sources: How we think, discuss, or see things when it comes race, class, and gender depends on our experiences. Recently, Penner and Saperstein find that survey interviewers sometimes classify the same person in a different racial group over time, depending on their other social statuses. Women are more likely to be reported as Black if they have received welfare. Having been incarcerated makes men more likely to be perceived as Black, but a suburban residence leads interviewers to identify people as white.
Gio: Ok since intersectionality has discrimination as a basis, how does discrimination work?
Sources: Discrimination is not simply about race or gender or class. racial discrimination against Blacks also has gender-specific components that affect Black women but not Black men and vice versa.
Gio: from what I have gathered, intersectionality also affects minorities of all ages? If so how do they experience it?
Sources: Sociologists using intersectionality have recently focused on age. Women are more concerned about looking old than men are; lesbians and Black women are less concerned than straight White women.
Gio: You mentioned lesbians in that last answer. Care to tell me how does sexuality relates to home, work, and family?
Sources: In the United States, we’ve witnessed increasing support for members of the LGBT community to have basic human rights. Intersectional approaches remind us that members of the LGBT community face pressures associated with their race, class, and gender identities. rurality, gender, and sexuality converge to privilege masculine performances of sexuality over feminine ones for White gays and lesbians. Participants talk about effeminate gay men not being compatible with rurality while more masculine lesbians are more likely to fit in.
Gio: I see, so there should be an appeal toward intersectionality if everyone is involved?
Sources: Intersectionality encourages researchers, policy makers and social change leaders to Move beyond single identities or group-specific concerns, which are ineffective in explaining the nuances of human lives; in this way, important information about the unfair impacts of politics and policies is less likely to ‘fall through the cracks.’
Gio: intersectionality, unlike other approaches, intersectionality is uniquely positioned to interrogate and understand human differences. Can you explain how Intersectionality differs from most approaches?
Sources: The intersectionality approach explicitly focuses on the relationships between factors and mutually constructed processes that create difference. As the examples at the end of this primer demonstrate, this allows for the generation of new and arguably more accurate information about any kind of problem or issue.
Gio: If society comes to terms with intersectionality, what would be the benefit in adding it into policy?
Sources: Just as important as understanding what intersectionality is, and the principles that can inform an intersectionality-informed stance, is to demonstrate
what intersectionality does. In the appendices of this primer, there are resources
for those seeking to begin the process of understanding how to think about and apply intersectionality in research (Appendix A), policy (Appendix B), activism (Appendix C) and education (Appendix D). The examples below briefly describe the potential of intersectionality to transform three important issues of policy.
Gio: Since intersectionality is a touchy issue, who benefits from this?
Sources: The correct question wouldn’t be who benefits but how can we use intersectionality to our advantage.
Gio: Would you care to tell me of those advantages then?
Sources: The use of intersectionality will allow us to not only use one standpoint but also view things on a wider scale to make sure we don’t miss any cracks.
Gio: some say that intersectionality leads to infighting between groups, feminist groups in particular. Is there a reason why?
Sources: Yes, indeed, intersectionality does lead to some infighting between women in such groups. There have been many reports in which the groups fought amongst each other due to tension between them.
Gio: You mentioned tension. Can you elaborate on what causes such tension?
Sources: The tension would surely rise from not only the mention of intersectionality but also due to lack of awareness the women have for their fellow feminists.
Gio: I find it amazing that there would actually be ignorance between women striving to achieve equality for their gender and yet they fail to realize the disadvantages of their peers. Why is that? Sources: Well it is easy to feign ignorance when a problem directly does not affects you. Since they cannot experience the problem it is therefore become invisible to them.
Gio: How can we promote awareness for people afflicted with intersectionality?
Sources: The basic response would be to talk about it with your peers, however, that would only solve your problem and not society’s. To promote awareness would not only involve events but also demand change in the social structure of society.
Gio: The world would definitely be a better place if society has this awareness of intersectionality, wouldn’t it?
Sources: Yes, it would. However, that would be a difficult task. Solving intersectionality would also mean to solve discrimination which is a hard task by itself. It is not impossible but it is difficult task to pursue.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW, OR WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO SAY?
What I’m thinking right now is as a man how can I contribute to help women of color who are afflicted by intersectionality. You have to remember that all minorities such as blacks, members of the LGBT community and other minorities are affected by intersectionality. However, intersectionality mostly affects women of color due to many social constructs. Another thing is that why can’t people who are oppressed work together to achieve equality. We all experience one form of intersectionality one way or another, why can’t we use intersectionality to our advantage. Those in power won’t help because solving intersectionality would be to be on equal terms with them, and they wouldn’t like that. I believe that the only way for me to help since I don’t have any government power is to use my platform such as social media to advocate for those who don’t have one. I should listen more to unprivileged groups even when they are criticizing my own. This one may be a hard one, I have to be conscious of my pronouns and other gendered language. I have to also examine my use of metaphors so that I don’t offend anyone.
CONCLUSION
After all my research, I have received enough information to answer my research question which was why do people turn a blind eye to intersectionality? The answer was quite simple, nothing more than a couple of clicks on google couldn’t solve. Apparently, the reason why people tend to ignore intersectionality or even criticize is simply because it causes tension between people. It is just like racism if not worst, because like racism the opposing party will not able to empathize with the one affected. It is different than racism because unlike racism it is not only about skin color but other overlapping factors that seem invisible but has devastating effect. Intersectionality does lead to many infighting, particularly between feminist groups. Due to those that feel marginalized within those groups, it creates fear and tension towards the white women. Many reports of straight-white females had left marches because they felt like they feel like they aren’t marginalized enough to be part of the group. Therefore, they ignore it and pretend it isn’t there. Because of intersectionality, white women feel like they need to “check their privileges”, which creates discomfort. Since humans dislike discomfort we turn a blind eye to it rather to solve it. Intersectionality is not saying that one oppressed group is better than any group. Rather, it is saying that oppressed person is a person too and deserves the same and equal treatment offered by the constitution and not fall between the cracks and plot holes of intersectionality. I do believe if we embrace the concept, we will certainly revolutionize society and bring forth change. You have to start from the ground up for this revolution.

Jofra Archer knows he could be the missing ingredient for England
It was the worst kept secret of cricket – but it still surprised Jofra Archer when he was on his way to play 5-to-5 football with his mates and called Ed Smith.
I was on my way to soccer. I just felt the phone vibrate and respond to the car's Bluetooth, & Archer says about his call to the World Cup in England, because he sits down exclusively with Sportsmail on Lord & # 39; s
& # 39; I really thought it was my mother or one of my friends I thought I had the call (from the chairman of selectors Smith) much earlier in the afternoon. I said to myself, "I probably won't call today." So I was quite surprised

st raight away I just called for something else. I told her and she was more excited than me! & # 39;
His mother, fashion designer Joelle, is not the only one.
The accelerated path of the 24-year-old fast bowler to the line-up in England is well documented. He was born in Bridgetown, Barbados and although his mother is Bajan, he has a British passport through his English father.
Last November, the Cricket Board of England and Wales changed their residence rules, meaning that Archer would be available in time for the World Cup build-up. Under the previous guidelines I would only be eligible in the winter of 2022 after a seven-year residency. After qualifying in March, I made an impression at this month's warming-up games against Ireland and Pakistan that I came up for the number 1 rank of Eoin Morgan.
The prospect of his call-up led David Willey, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood to express their concerns. But, Archer says, there was no resentment.
& # 39; Some of the guys got my number (Sussex teammate) Chris Jordan and report that they were misquoted in some of the interviews they had done. They weren't shy about coming over and saying, "That's not who we are or how we work."
I am always a bit shy. But I had CJ with him and he is one of my best friends, just as long as I had it, I knew it would be alright. I knew some of the other guys from playing at the provincial level and overseas franchise tournaments. 24-year-old Archer enjoyed an accelerated path to the line-up in England "class =" blkBorder ">

Such as Archer; Jordan, 30, was born in Barbados and chose to play for England. The couple are neighbors who live close to The County Ground Hove – the home of Sussex. Good friends all over the world, Archer credits Jordan for where it is today.
& # 39; He is almost the reason why I am here in the first place & # 39 ;, he reflects. & # 39; We live next to each other and we always go around each other. Our relationship goes much further than cricket.
If it is not 5-to-5 football – and one director says cricket Ashley Giles that he should hang up the astoturf trainers sharply – Archer fills his time listening to dancehall, rap and hip hop music and Fortnite on his Xbox. But cricket has always been his first love.
He got the sport back in Barbados through his uncles, cousins and played in his neighborhood. It is where his entire family still lives, except his father in Liverpool. Family is an important part of Archer's education. Aside from his mother and stepfather, Patrick – who is an accident management manager – the fast bowler has a younger sister, Tsedale, 20, who is in college. Archer, who can bow more than 90 mph, will certainly be well supported by his loved ones in the next six weeks.
& # 39; My family was ready for the ODI series against Pakistan because I intended I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do. & # 39; Unfortunately my stepfather used up most of his vacation days to watch the Pakistani series, so he went back to Barbados. My mother is still here and will be until July.
Archer has been impressed since playing for Eoin Morgan & # 39; s side prior to the upcoming world class "class =" blkBorder ">

& # 39; Well, the boys have worked very hard & # 39;
and that is why we have just been against Pakistan, where we won 4-0, & Archer says prior to the ECB's Express Yourself campaign , which tries to connect fans with the English team and gives them a unique insight into how the players express themselves on and off the pitch. & # 39; We're going to play on someone's home field every week, so hopefully those players can push that little bit extra and that's when they turn out to be good for the team. & # 39;
The House of Sussex, Hove
I think the Oval is actually pretty nice, "he says. & # 39; It goes back to playing for Sussex because we always wanted to beat Surrey on their home field, so I always came to the Oval with that little extra pace & # 39;
on from the Twenty20 he played to the 50-over game?
& # 39; T20 is quite intense from the first ball to the last ball, & # 39; the right arm says quickly. & # 39; If I can bring that intensity and mindset for 50 overs, then I am in the best position to play to the best of my ability.
& # 39; But I hope I can bring that extra bit of luck. England has not done so well in recent World Cups, so I hope I can bring the trophy this year. "
To do that, England may have to see the old enemies, Australia. Archer probably gets his first encounter with Ashes rivalry on Saturday in a World Cup warm-up in the Ageas Bowl.
<img id = "i-d32dd7f683d51e60" src = "https://dailym.ai/2weZbd9 .jpg "height =" 505 "width =" 634 "alt =" He started exercising in Barbados because of his uncles, cousins in his neighborhood "Barbados because of his uncles, cousins in his neighborhood"
He entered sports in Barbados through his uncles, cousins and games in his neighborhood
I am looking forward to it because I cannot wait to face the rivalry for myself experienced & # 39 ;, he says.
Another weapon that catches the eye is England's group phase match against the West Indies on June 14, also in Southampton.
But he did not give a warning to someone from any country who would try to drag him.
& # 39; If I am hit before six, I may have a word, but I prefer to stare than to talk & # 39 ;, he says.
It was Archer at the receiving end of sledging on Monday as he and his friends, who play for Egg Fried Reus, lost their 5-against game against Turnip Road FC in Horsham
& # 39; Yes, we lost, Turnip Road was pretty good & # 39 ;, he says. & # 39; One of the guys didn't know who I was, but then I saw something on Twitter and had a cheeky little grab at me. & # 39;
If things go well for England in the coming weeks, there will be no
